1 The Week Ahead September 2016 Delegations Agenda President Schulz meets Theresa May. EP President Martin Schulz will meet UK Prime Minister Theresa May and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan on Thursday in London. Still in London and on Friday, President Schulz will meet Labour Party Leader Jeremy Corbyn and deliver a speech on The EU and Britain parting ways but working together at the London School of Economics (LSE). Refugee resettlement. A Civil Liberties Committee delegation will go to Lebanon to look into the situation of refugees and resettlement. MEPs will visit refugee camps and meet UNHCR, UNICEF, UNRWA, international NGOs and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) staff working with the refugees. They willalso meet representatives of the Lebanese Parliament. (Monday to Thursday) Refugee funds. A Budgetary Control Committee delegation will go to Lebanon and Jordan to visit refugee camps and meet representatives of UNRWA to get more information on the financial aspects of the refugee situation. (Tuesday to Thursday) Migration. A Civil Liberties Committee delegation will take part in a UN high-level meeting in New York City on refugees and migrants. On 19 September, a political declaration will be signed on how to address large movements of refugees and migrants, including a set of commitments to enhance their protection. (Sunday to Tuesday) Border controls. A Civil Liberties Committee delegation will go to Sweden to visit its border with Denmark, where regular border checks have been reintroduced since November 2015, in response to the refugee crisis. MEPs will meet authorities such as the National Police and the Migration Board, to discuss border control and the integration of unaccompanied minor asylum seekers. (Monday to Wednesday) Car emissions inquiry. The Inquiry Committee on Emission Measurements in the Automotive Sector (EMIS) is sending a delegation to Luxembourg, France and Germany to visit testing facilities and speak with national authorities in charge of checking whether cars meet EU criteria on emissions. A delegation of the Internal Market Committee, which is working on an overhaul of car type-approval rules, will go to the UK to discuss this with testing facilities, carmakers, environmental groups and the national testing agency and type approval authority. The UN General Assembly is expected to adopt a set of commitments to enhance the protection of people fleeing from conflict. MEPs will also meet Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans and EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini. Once adopted, these commitments - which were agreed to on 2 August - will be known as the New York Declaration. Members travelling in the delegation are Cecilia Wikström (ALDE, SE), Róza Maria GRÄFIN VON THUN UND HOHENSTEIN (EPP, PL) and Elly SCHLEIN (S&D; IT).
