SELECT PROJECTS The South Asia Institute of the University of Heidelberg sponsored the Governance in India project as a comparative study. Drafted the West Bengal Timeline for the project as Local Investigator. Was responsible for collection of secondary data and content analyses from print media sources (1997-98). The Institute of Federalism of the University of Fribourg awarded a Doctoral Fellowship to work on the Problems of Governance in India thesis. The tenure of this fellowship was partially spent working on Refugee Politics in West Bengal. An in-house seminar was presented on this topic at the International Research and Consulting Centre of the Institute (1999). Wrote the position paper for the Gender Violence in West Bengal project funded by UNIFEM while employed as Research Associate at the Council for Development Studies. Analyzed secondary data and source materials while drafting the position paper. Research findings were later published in Crime Prevention and Community Safety (2003). Was responsible for documentation, liaison, networking and outreach activities while working as Field Coordinator for the Kolkata Environmental Improvement Project. Drafted the Benefit Monitoring and Evaluation Reports (Solid Waste Management and Resettlement & Rehabilitation) for the project funded by the Asian Development Bank as well as the Department for International Development, United Kingdom and implemented by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (2003-04). BRIEF BIOGRAPHY Dr Prasenjit Maiti is a Political Sociologist. He joined the Development Sector in 2003 after teaching and researching at the MA and MPhil Levels of the University of Burdwan (1995-2002) as Lecturer in Political Science. Dr Maiti was associated with the Asian Development Bank-funded Kolkata Environmental Improvement Project as NGO Representative and Member of the Resettlement Plan Implementation Working Group (2003-04). Dr Maiti earlier worked at the Council for Development Studies as Research Associate and also served as Consultant to the Shelter Promotion Council [2003]. He edited a volume on the National Green Corps Program sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (Government of India) commissioned by the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (2004) and worked briefly for ActionAid on a Right to Information Project (2005). He served as Consultant to the Consumer Unity & Trust Society on a Perception Assessment Study focused on livelihoods in the agriculture and textile sectors (2005). He also served as Evaluation Consultant for The Energy & Resources Institute (2005). He is presently employed by Consulting Engineering Services (India) Pvt Ltd as Senior Sociologist. Dr Maiti was on secondment as Doctoral Fellow at the Institute of Federalism, University of Fribourg while teaching at the University of Burdwan [1999]. He taught Tourism Administration at Burdwan University and served as Resource Person for Distance Education Programs and Teachers' Training Courses sponsored by the University Grants Commission. Prasenjit Maiti served as Reviewer (2001) for Policing: An International Journal of Police Strategies & Management (College of Education, Division of Criminal Justice, University of Cincinnati). He is also Referee for Environment & Development Economics (University of York, Heslington, York) published by the Cambridge University Press and Crime Prevention & Community Safety [Perpetuity Press, Leicester] as well as Reviewer for Globalization and Health. Dr Maiti holds First Class Graduate and Postgraduate Degrees in Political Science from Presidency College, University of Calcutta and Jawaharlal Nehru University [Centre for Political Studies, School of Social Sciences] respectively. He received the National Merit Scholarship of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
