LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAL DISTRICT 27-C2 CABINET MEETING April 16, 2010 Hurley Inn, Hurley, WI The April 16, 2010 Cabinet Meeting of Lions District 27-C2 was called to order by DG Shirley Lemke at 3:00pm at the at the Hurley Inn in Hurley, WI. VDG Robert Moen led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. PDG Jim Boettcher gave the opening prayer. DG Shirley Lemke introduced & welcomed guests present and those who entered later during the meeting. In her opening remarks DG Shirley reviewed a few of the recent happenings and upcoming events concerning Wisconsin Lions. 1.) DG Shirley received information from Jodi Burmester concerning the use of the LCI Public Relations Grant she authored for $20,000 in January. During the last two weeks of January, 189 radio stations and 28 television stations played a total of 3435 announcements for the promotion of lions clubs during the Lions in Sight Campaign. We feel we received a good return on the $20,000 PR Grant from LCI. 2.) DG Shirley received notice on April 8 that the Lions License Plate Bills have been approved by the Joint Finance Committee and now will be scheduled for votes by both the state Senate & Assembly. 3.) Plans continue to move the State Lions Office to the Lions Camp, probably in October when the current lease runs out. 4.) DG Shirley has not heard anything more from LCI concerning Walmart s used eyeglass collection. One lion in our district reported to her that he had no problem when he asked to pick up the collected glasses from his local Walmart store to run through our state used eyeglass program. 5.) DG Shirley recently sent out PU-101 forms and reminders to club secretaries and encouraged reporting of email addresses if available.

6.) DG Shirley encourages attendance of at least part if not all of the upcoming state convention in Stevens Point, May 13 15. Many details of the convention are covered in the Wisconsin Lion Newspaper. 7.) We have officer training coming up May 22 at the Lake of the Torches Casino from 9:00am to 11:30am. Invitations and registration forms are being sent out to all clubs. The state Merlow Team is sending four representatives to help out, so please encourage your membership chairperson as well as other officers to attend. 8.) This year s USA-Canadian Forum will be held in Milwaukee, September 23 to 25. Registration forms as well as volunteer helper forms will be available at their expo booth of our convention. Communications VDG Bob Moen received follow up information on Lisa Bishop s transplant. Our cabinet donated $500 and the district clubs raised $4,600 to help her with her expenses. She did have the transplant in Minneapolis did remarkably well. She wants to thank everyone that donated funds. Minutes Motion to approve the minutes of the January 31, 2010 Cabinet Meeting as emailed and mailed..schonberg/knott..carried. Treasurer s Report Treasurer Bill Kriegel reviewed the most recent balance sheet. There were no questions. In reviewing this year s budget, the major overrun was in Cabinet Meals & Expense due to the exceptionally well attended cabinet meetings. Motion to suspend the Constitution & By-Laws provision for cabinet convention meals this year to cover the cabinet meal budget overrun..boettcher/d Hirtz..carried. DG Shirley thanked Treasurer Bill Kriegel for stepping in for Lion Dean Klemm this year. Shirley reported that Lion Dean has had a tough time with chemo and radiation & of course is dealing with a tough diagnosis. District Convention Update PDG Stan Carlson reminded all PDGs that their assistance will be needed during the service of remembrance. The no smoking ban will be in effect during the convention. The bar will be closed during the service of remembrance. Lion Stan offered his compliments on the work and cooperation of the Hurley Inn employees and the Hurley Lions Club members in getting ready for this convention. There will be no parade of checks. Preparations have been made for the overflow seating for tomorrow s luncheon. Expo booths will be set up around the pool. Lion Don

Pirk of the Hurley Lions reported that they are ready and have 328 lions registered so far. District Election Update Elections chairperson Julene Mueller announced voter certification will be held in the lobby area Saturday from 8 to 9am and again from 1:30 to 2:30pm. Club dues must be paid up for members to be certified. On the ballot for election are: Robert Moen for District Governor, Leon Christiansen for First Vice District Governor, Dennis Christianson for WLF Director, and Tomahawk for the 2012 District Convention. Mileage Incurred for Adult Vision/Glaucoma Project DG Shirley proposed that our cabinet consider some sort of mileage reimbursement for the vision/glaucoma screening project. A total of 1208 miles were incurred during the 2009-2010 screening year by Dennis & Mary Jane Hirtz. Lions Dennis & Mary Jane stated they do not expect reimbursement for past mileage but the cabinet may wish to set up a reimbursement structure for the future. Another concern voiced by cabinet members was that for children s vision screening, some clubs are covering this expense themselves, while others are asking for reimbursement from the Children s Vision Screening Fund. It was questioned, do we really need two separate funds, Children s Vision Screening and Adult Glaucoma Screening, or should these be combined into one Vision Screening Fund. An ad hoc committee of IPDG Bob Schonberg, Dennis Hirtz and Greg Tobisch will meet to consider these questions. Their recommendations along with those of the budget committee will be considered at the first cabinet meeting in August. Selection of District 27-C2 Pin for 2010 2012 Pin Chair Mike Lorbetske presented the five proposed pin submissions for consideration. Motion..D Ashby/H Helwig.. to accept the fish design to be produced in a series of three.carried. After further discussion, motion to establish them as two year pins and order a quantity for 400 for better pricing.. H Helwig/D Ashby..carried. Update on Officer Training Covered earlier in DG Shirley s opening remarks. District Policies Update DG Shirley has assembled a committee to review the District Policies and recommend updates. The committee will be headed up by Policy Chair PDG

Chuck Franz. The northern area will be represented by PDG Harry Helwig, VDG Leon Christiansen, DG Bob Moen and PDG Ed Weise. PDG Dennis Knott, PDG Stan Carlson and DG Shirley Lemke will represent the southern area on this committee. Their recommendations will be brought to the first cabinet meeting next year. Audit Committee The following members have been selected to serve on a Budget/Audit Committee to meet at a later determined date. Lions Bill Kriegel, Shirley Lemke, Bob Moen, Leon Christiansen, Vic Schiszik, Don Pirk, Dennis Knott, Jim Boettcher, & Bob Schonberg Date for first Cabinet Meeting for 2010-2011 VDG Bob Moen announced that the first cabinet meeting will be held at the Lake of the Torches Casino on August 8, 2010 at 12 noon. The rest of the cabinet meetings are scheduled for October 24, January 30, and April 15 at the district convention. This book is also available in many public libraries. PDG Harry Helwig announced that members of the Rhinelander Leo Club will be doing the flag ceremony at tomorrow morning s convention. DG Shirley expressed her appreciation to the cabinet and the clubs in our district for all the help and support given to her and husband Lion Dave over this last year. She and Dave consolidated the monetary gifts they received from the clubs this year, added to it, and presented a check for $1000 to PID Peter Cerniglia, current president of the Wisconsin Lions Eye Bank, for the District 27-C2 Pledge to the eye bank capital campaign.
