IMMIGRATION Leading you to clarity

IMMIGRATION ADVICE BOTH TO INDIVIDUALS AND TO BUSINESSES We understand that immigration is often a very complex area of law and that the consequences of getting it wrong can be severe for individuals and companies alike. Bircham Dyson Bell s immigration practice has the advantage of being, simultaneously, a discrete area in which the firm holds a laudable track record and individual expertise, yet also a discipline which combines with many of the firm s other strengths, notably in the Private Wealth and Commercial and Corporate areas. Clients are therefore assured an all-round, commercially aware service. This multi-disciplinary approach is what sets us apart from other firms offering a singlespecialism service or a reduced range of expertise. EXPLORING ALL OPTIONS We regularly have to explore a range of solutions when it comes to helping our clients with their immigration problems. Rather than simply telling you what the law is, we make every effort to help you work through an issue and consider viable alternatives, as well as anticipating issues which might arise in the future. BUSINESS IMMIGRATION The legal regime for those seeking to work in the UK and for businesses wanting to employ them remains full of complexity. Despite the introduction of what was hoped to be a more straightforward Points Based System, navigating the law can be daunting for prospective workers and employers alike. We regularly advise a strong collection of first-rate clients on sponsorship licence applications, compliance obligations and applications under the Points Based System. Many of our immigration clients already benefit from the firm s employment and industrial relations expertise. We are also adept at helping foreign companies with their immigration queries when they are setting up business in the UK.

PERSONAL IMMIGRATION We have considerable experience in a range of personal immigration issues. Matters we regularly advise on include spousal visas, settlement applications, applications to the UK Border Agency by European Economic Area nationals or their family members, immigration to the UK under Tier 1 of the Points Based System and citizenship. Our Private Wealth team has an enviable reputation in providing advice to high net-worth individuals and can provide unparalleled expertise on the tax effects of immigration. A SELECTION OF THE ISSUES WITH WHICH WE CAN HELP Advice to prospective entrepreneurs and investors under Tier 1 of the Points Based System; Assisting UK-based employers looking to relocate overseas staff to the UK under Tier 2 of the Points Based System; Applications under the Points Based System in general; Obtaining sponsorship licences and certificates of sponsorship; Obtaining visas for employees and for family members of employees; Assisting sole representatives of overseas organisations to establish a UK presence; Obtaining residence documents for European Economic Area nationals and EEA family permits for their non-eea national family members; Citizenship and nationality; Settlement applications; Spouse and other family visas; Appealing immigration decisions to the first Tier Immigration Tribunal; Acting as key contacts and/or level 1 users on the Sponsor Management System; Advising employers on how to prevent illegal working; Running bespoke immigration training sessions for human resources and/or in-house legal teams.

BE INVOLVED The Immigration Team at Bircham Dyson Bell believes in going the extra mile for its clients. We regularly organise briefings and seminars at our offices on immigration matters, keeping clients up to date with what is a constantly changing area of law. We also send out email briefings and updates discussing changes in the law and issues likely to affect our clients. If you would like to be added to our mailing list please just email or call us. Tim Hayes also comments on a regular basis on immigration issues on his LinkedIn page and maintains an immigration blog on the Bircham Dyson Bell website. RELOCATION TO THE UK Bircham Dyson Bell also offers a bespoke service for those moving to the United Kingdom. As you plan your move to the UK you will have thought of many things that you need to do, but there will be many things that you have not thought of. We want to take the strain out of the move by helping you plan and organise the whole process. We have created a dedicated team to deal with all your legal needs. This team and your needs will be coordinated by a single person with a single point of contact. We have teamed up with a leading global relocation expert who will deal with everything that you need, from crating up your valuables to recommending a school for your children.
