Lions Clubs International District 2-X1: 1st Cabinet Meeting Lion Kathleen Tyre, DG 2015-2016 Saturday, July 25, 2015 Ridgecrest Baptist Church,6801 Wesley Street, Greenville, TX (Use South Entrance) 1 st Cabinet Meeting Minutes The Meeting was called to order at 09:00 A.M. by District 2-X1 Governor Kathleen Tyre. District 2-X1 Chaplain Randy Rather gave the Invocation. Second VDG Henry White led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags. First VDG Bill Smothermon introduced all guests and Lions per protocol. District 2-X1 Governor welcomed all attendees to the 1 st District 2-X1 Cabinet Meeting of 2015 2016. DG Kathleen had the Presidents of the Royse City and Greenville Lions Club give their Clubs welcome to the attendees as the host Clubs for this Cabinet Meeting. DG Kathleen installed all District 2-X1 Cabinet Officers. She installed the District Governor Team of 1VDG Bill Smothermon and 2VDG Henry White. She installed the CS Billy Ketner and the CT Danny Fletcher. She installed all the Zone Chairs who were present at the meeting. DG Kathleen gave a brief report on the LCI Convention held in Hawaii and on the International President s program and theme for 2015 2016. Old Business: DG Kathleen introduced CS Billy Ketner who presented the Cabinet Meeting Minutes for the 4 th Cabinet Meeting of 2014 2015 held on March 28, 2015. These minutes are stored on the District 2-X1 web site. PCC Joe Montag made a motion to approve these minutes as presented. Lion Tamer Dora Harrington seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. CS Billy presented the Business Meeting Minutes for the District 2-X1 Convention held on April 25, 2015. These minutes are also stored on the District 2-X1 web site. Internal Relations Chair PCT/PCS Keith Murray made a motion to approve these minutes as presented. Zone 1 Chair Roy Chirayil seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.

IPDG Ken Gleason was introduced to present awards. He first awarded 100% Club Secretary Awards for 2013 2014 to Club Secretaries George Joseph, Billy Ketner, and John Stare. He awarded certificates for starting LEO CLUBS to Royse City LC and Cedar Hill LC for 2014-2015. He also awarded some Zone Chair, Guiding Lion, and other awards left over from the 2014 2015 Lions Year. New Business: CT Danny Fletcher was introduced to present the District 2-X1 Financial Reports. No printed reports were available and no reports had been made available online to the District 2-X1 Cabinet for this Cabinet Meeting. DG Kathleen tabled the presentation of the Financial Reports until the next Cabinet Meeting. DG Kathleen introduced District 2-X1 Finance Chair PDG John Landrum to present the District 2-X1 Budgets for 2015 2016. He presented the Budgets and answered several questions about the Budgets. Hearing Conservation Chair George Burke made a motion to approve the Budgets as presented. International Relations Chair PCT/PCS Keith Murray seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. DG Kathleen Tyre and CT Danny Fletcher presented the proposal for the District Depository and the District Signatories on the Clubs Bank Accounts. CT Danny stated the Depository should remain as Texas Capital Bank. He also stated that the account Signatories should be District 2-X1 Governor Kathleen Tyre, District 2-X1 First Vice District Governor Bill Smothermon, District 2-X1 Second Vice District Governor Henry White, District 2-X1 Cabinet Secretary Billy Ketner, and District 2-X1 Cabinet Treasurer Danny Fletcher. PCC Joe Montag moved that the Depository and Signatories be approved as stated by CT Danny Fletcher. International Relations Chair PCT/PCS Keith Murray seconded the motion and it passed unanimously. DG Kathleen called for any Nomination Letters. Lion President Deborah Harris of the Irving Noon Day Lions Club read that Club s Nomination Letter for PCT/PCS Keith Murray for Second Vice District Governor of District 2-X1 in 2016-2017. The letter was accepted by the District Cabinet. DG Kathleen introduced Lion President Barbara Wiggins of the Greenville LC to introduce the speaker for this meeting. Lion Barbara introduced Wes Trueblood the Salvation Army Core Administrator for Greenville. Wes covered some of the facts about the services the Salvation Army provides in the Greenville and Hunt County areas. He also thanked the District 2-X1 Lions who brought donations of good and money to this Cabinet Meeting as the District s Service Project for this Meeting. The Tail Twister added $100.00 from the raffle collections to the donations. DG Kathleen thanked Wes for his presentation and for the services the Salvation Army provides that are so in line with what Lions do on all levels. DG Kathleen then announced a 15 minute break from 10:00 10:15 A.M.

DG Kathleen called the meeting back to order at 10:15 A.M. She asked Zone Chairs and Cabinet Chairs wishing to make verbal reports to the Cabinet to line up for their reports. Zone 1 Chair Roy Chirayil talked about the Clubs in his Zone and some of the projects they have upcoming. He also presented a Lions Alert report. Zone 3 Chair Bob Schwerd talked about the 10,000 eye glasses sorted, cleaned, and shipped to TLERC under the sponsorship of the Plano Early LC and Plano Evening LC Members. Zone 10 Chair Rita Claxton gave a brief summary of the Clubs in her Zone. She also reported on Camp New Horizon of which she and Lion Robert Claxton are the District Co-Chairs. Zone 6 Chair Deborah Harris gave a summary of her Clubs. She was especially proud of Dallas Everest LC who increased their membership by 9 members in 2014 2015. Zone 8 Chair Tom McCallister talked about his Clubs. He was proud that the Maypearl LC has been revived. He also talked about his activities as Directory Chair and Lions Link Chair. Reading Action Chair Hilary Landrum gave a summary of the program. She will help District Clubs during this year to implement and support reading action programs in their areas. There are many resources available on the LCI site to help Clubs start programs in their areas. White Cane Chair Alice Velasco challenged all Clubs to do White Cane Day events in 2015 2016. LS&TF President George Harrington talked about meeting the needs better this Lions Year. He also talked about the LS&TF Golf Tournament. The LS&TF will be available for Club Programs. He also talked about the LS&TF Vision Bus. LOFY Chair Mindy Helsley talked about all the programs available through the District for youth. She urged all Clubs to prepare for the LOFY programs by finding the school contacts in their areas for the various programs. PDG Carolyn Dorman gave some of the accomplishments of the GLT in 2014 2015. She introduced the GLT Coordinator for 2015 2017 Fred Conger. Lion Fred talked about some of the plans for the GLT in 2015 2016. He thanked PDG Carolyn for her service in starting the GLT in our District and leading as GLT Coordinator for the past three years. Past GMT Coordinator Henry White talked about some of the accomplishments of the GMT in our District in 2014 2015. Lion Henry introduced PDG Bob Crabtree who is the GMT Coordinator for our District for 2015 2017. He has joined the Coppell LC. He will work with District Clubs and is especially interested in retention. Lion President Pamela Baker of Wylie Evening LC presented DG Kathleen with a survival kit for her year as DG. The kit was prepared with the help of Zone 2 Chair Maria Lucero. PDG Dan Busdiecker talked about his role as LCIF Coordinator for our District. District Chaplain T. J. Johnson talked about an organized program to meet the needs of the family and friends of District Lions who pass away in this Lions Year. The District will respond to all occurrences in an appropriate way. Diabetes Awareness/Diabetic Essay/Gift of Life Chair Gloria Mathur talked about the

Screening Projects the Dallas Filipino LC is doing. She presented checks from the Dallas Filipino LC for the Diabetic Essay Contest, the LS&TF, and Leader Dogs for the Blind. Texas Lions Camp Elected Director Marvin Surles urged all District Clubs to sponsor children to the Camp, do a work day for the Camp, and donate to the Camp. Lions Quest Chair Ilonka Burke talked about the programs and support available from Lions Quest. CT Danny Fletcher talked about the District 2-X1 State Fair Float for 2015 2016. The float has been completed at a cost of $1,700.00. He asked Clubs and District Members to make pledges to offset the cost of the float. These Clubs pledged $100.00 each to support the float Seagoville Sunset, Irving Noon Day, Grand Prairie Evening, Coppell, Dallas South, Royse City, Grand Prairie Host, Dallas White Rock, Plano Early, Rowlett, and Greenville. In addition, DG Kate pledged $100, PDG Don Johnson, pledged $100, PDG Bob Crabtree pledged $100, PDG Alice Conway pledged $100, PDG Skip Johnson pledged $100, and CS Billy Ketner pledged $100. DG Kathleen, PDG Don Johnson, and CS Billy paid CT Danny Fletcher at the meeting. The CS will give the CT the names of the other Lions and Lions Clubs who made pledges. Sports Extravaganza Co-Chair John Joy talked about supporting that event. He also talked about A1C screening service projects that can be led by the Irving DFW Indian LC for other Clubs in 2-X1. LEO Chair Linda Bryant talked about starting more LEO Clubs in our District this year. Hearing Conservation Chair George Burke talked about his availability to give hearing programs this year. PDG Kathy Fletcher talked about her role as District Historian. She also mentioned that Dallas Founders LC has lost some of their past records. She asked other District Clubs to help support Dallas Founders with any records they might have about the Founders Club. She also talked about the event tonight at Air Hogs Stadium. The event supports Military Veterans. The District will present a Rock and Roll Cycle to a wounded warrior during this year. The event tonight supports that effort. IPDG Ken Gleason talked about his role as President of 2-X1 Charities, Inc. in 2015 2016. As Honorary PDG he will meet with other PDG s in the near future on ways all PDG s can help the GMT in club rebuilding and retention efforts during this year. 1VDG Bill Smothermon talked about supporting the Feast of Sharing on November 12, 2015. Texas Lions Foundation Chair PDG Don Johnson talked about the achievements of District Clubs in support of the Foundation. He also talked about some of the recent grants in our District. He also talked about various levels of giving and awards from the Texas Lions Foundation. Past TLC Elected Director Vinod Mathur talked about the achievement of District 2-X1 Clubs in their support of the TLC in 2014 2015. As District 2-X1 Centennial Celebration Coordinator he talked about Centennial Service and Centennial Membership programs. Peace Poster/Essay Contest/Lions Services for Children/Julien C. Hyer Chair Karen Murray talked about various programs and activities being done this year. As District Tail Twister she gave three raffle prizes away. A total of $284.00 was raised today by the Tail Twister.

DG Kathleen reminded all Voting Members present to turn in their voting cards. She also asked all Clubs to be sure to file their 990 forms to the IRS by 11/15/15. She also thanked all new attendees for being at this Cabinet Meeting. There being no more business before the Cabinet, DG Kathleen adjourned the Cabinet Meeting at 11:45 A.M.
