Book an appointment for your examination by phone, email or in person and process your medical examination at IOM Migration Health Assessment Centres (MHAC) in Lagos or Abuja. Your medical results will be sent electronically via emedical (Canada, Australia and New Zealand visa applicants). USA visa applicants will collect their reports in a sealed envelope and present to the embassy during the interview. USA migration medical exam is performed only at IOM MHAC Abuja. 1. 4. What to bring to the medical examination a) Identification document: Original valid passport, National Identity Card (an original birth certificate is an acceptable national ID document for minors under the age of consent only) or Others documents e.g. Refugee travel document or Red cross travel document or UN laisses-passer or Seaman s book or OAS travel document or Refugee protection claimant document. b) Specific to Canada visa applicants: IME number if you have applied for a visa and received IME number from the Canadian High Commission. c) Specific to Australia visa applicants: (a) HAP number issued by the Australian High Commission, (b) Yellow card showing receipt of Polio vaccine. d) Specific to USA visa applicants: (a) letter from the embassy; (b) vaccination records. e) Proof of payment (Transfer Receipt). f) Medical records: Copies of medical reports about any current or previous medical condition(s) including x-ray images or radiologist report and laboratory reports. Insufficient information may lead to delays and additional testing. g) Medicine: Information about any prescription medication that you take currently. h) Prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses if you use them to avoid referral to the ophthalmologist. 5. Advice and information regarding medical examination a) Duration: Your medical examination will take place over a one- day period. Please allow approximately 5 hours for your examination to be completed. The duration of examination may be longer especially during the peak season (June-September). b) Specific to Australia visa applicants (Tuberculous Skin Test): Children aged two (2) years to less than eleven (11) years applying for permanent or provisional visa will undergo Tuberculous Skin Test (TST). The results of the TST will be red after 48 hours (2 days) from the date of medical examination. c) Specific to New Zealand visa applicants: Applicants should know in advance medical certificate he/she is required to complete. d) Specific to USA visa applicants (Tuberculous Skin Test): Children aged two (2) years to less than fifteen (15) years will undergo Tuberculous Skin Test (TST). The results of the TST will be red after 48 hours (2 days) from the date of medical examination. e) Minors: Children under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian, who can sign and make decisions on their behalf. Friends and family members without an appointment for an immigration medical examination are not permitted to accompany you (visa applicant) during your immigration medical examination. Page 3 of 6
f) Physical examination by the doctor: You will be asked to take off all your clothes except your underwear. g) Chaperone: You may request a chaperon (a third person) to be present during your physical examination, especially if you are to be examined by a physician of the opposite sex. h) Pregnancy: Do not conceal pregnancy. Pregnancy will not affect your immigration prospects. X-ray radiation may harm your baby. i) Menstruation: Women are advised to avoid medical examination during menstruation as it may affect results of the urine test. Menstruating women will be requested to come back for urine test at least two days after the last day of menstruation. j) Do not conceal medical conditions. Deliberate attempts to conceal medical information will be recorded in your medical report and immigration visa office notified. Additional examination or tests may be required for individuals with significant medical conditions in order to complete and submit the medical report. k) Fever: Postpone or re-schedule your appointment if you or your child is ill with fever.
