Call to order: The meeting was called to order by District Governor Steve Willett at 9:30 a.m. Invocation: Given by PDG Tom Laws. Pledge: Led by ZC Susan Hastings. Guests: None. Roll call: ZC Kathleen Marusich noted roll call was complete; there were 22 members in attendance. Members not in attendance: (I ll fill this in if you confirm on the spreadsheet who attended) Governor s comments: DG Steve thanked everyone for coming. There are upcoming changes in the District, and the goal is to reach 1260 for the membership total for the year. There is a new virtual club in the process of being chartered. The members are from Fox Lake/Lake Forest. There are 20 for the charter now and 20 more pending. The Guiding Lions for this club with be an IT Tech person from the club and ZC Kathleen Marusich. Cabinet Secretary Reports & Comments: ZC Marusich stated that CS Shelly Gallagher the June 6, 2014 minutes were sent via e-mail last week. A motion was made by RC Alan Barack to accept the minutes, seconded by ZC Geoff Spaeth. Motion carried. Dues notices will be going out this week. Zoners please encourage your clubs to pay ASAP. Motions Motion #1: 2VDG Barb Lahtinen made a motion that the District 1-F voting cabinet shall consist of the District Governor, the First Vice District Governor, the Second Vice District Governor, the Cabinet Secretary, the Cabinet Treasurer, the Immediate Past District Governor, the Region Chair, the Zone Chairs, all Past District Governor s serving as committee chairs on the 2014-2015 Cabinet and the two Lions of Illinois Foundation Trustees. Motion seconded by ZC Geoff Spaeth. Motion carried. Motion #2: CT Pat Gallagher made a motion that the Lions District Dues be set at $3.50 per Lion for the Lion s Year 2014-2015. Motion seconded by ZC Kathleen Marusich. Motion carried. Motion #3: CT Pat Gallagher made a motion that that the Lioness District Dues be set at $1.00 per Lioness for the Lion s Year 2014-2015. Motion seconded by RC Alan Barack. Motion carried. Lion Tom Porte stated the budget committee met on July 16 and have submitted a proposed budget. Motion #4: 1VDG Mart Reading made a motion that that the voting cabinet accept the proposed budget as presented for the Lions year 2014-2015. Motion seconded by PDG Tom Laws. Discussion. Motion carried. Motion #5: Region Chair Alan Barack made a motion that District 1-F continue with the accounting services of Swarztrauber & Company for the Lions year 2014-2015 in the amount of $750.00. Motion seconded by ZC Sue Hastings. Motion carried. Motion # 6: CT Pat Gallagher made a motion that the money market interest of $34.00 from 2013-2014 be transferred into the general fund. Motion seconded by ZC Sue Hastings. Motion carried. Cabinet Treasurer s Reports & Comments: CT Pat Gallagher reviewed the final report for 2013-2014. A motion was made by 1 st VDG Reading to accept the report as presented, subject to audit; the motion was seconded by ZC Sue Hastings. No discussion. Motion approved. 1

Global Membership/Leadership Teams Global Leadership Team - PDG French DuGay There was a GLT meeting on July 1. Manuals were reviewed for changes. Included an expense sheet. There will be zone chair training on August 11 at Sunset Foods. May 9 will be officers training in Vernon hills. Presenters to be contacted. District membership kit for new members org charts, welcome from District Governor. There was a GLT meeting on July 1 st. to go over the objectives for the year. The officer manuals that had been printed previously were reviewed. One change being made is to add an expense report for the ZC s to use as a training tool. New this year will be a welcome packet for new members (the GLT & GMT are working on this together). The kit will include a welcome letter from the District Governor, various Lions org charts, lists of resources where to find things, who to contact, etc., and a list of frequently used acronyms. Officer training will be on Sat. May 9, 2015 and will be held at the Larry Laschen center in Vernon Hills. The GLT will be contacting presenters. Global Membership Team- PDG Larry Spaeth Larry was dressed in his Mission from God hat, tie & sunglasses to bring up the point of Membership we must reach the 1250 minimum and reiterated the DG s number of 1260. He explained the Ask 1 campaign and also had literature to be distributed for the ZC s. He will continue to assist clubs with the CEP process. He would like clubs to identify a need, fill the need and do a service project to get the community on board. The membership contest that PCC Baumer had last Lions year continues and now has two additional awards- Total number of new members, and Net increase %.. Glasses and hat Mission form God. Membership goal for this year is 1260. Literature packets available Do Something. ZC s should pick up packets Just Ask orientation. Virtual club will really help boost our membership. Three awards PCC Mike Baumer s membership contest from last year to be continued this year: Total number of new members and net increase %. CEP Process identify need and fill it. Region and Zone Chair Reports Region Chair - RC Alan Barack - July 1 met with the GLT members and discussed the plans for the team and future CEP presentations. Lion French notified the members he is moving out of state. He commented that he will still be active via webinars and emails. Talked about the Gurnee club. July 8 attended the Fox Lake Lions Club. Talked about the CEP presentation. July 15 attended the Budget meeting for 2014-2015. July 17 met with Lion Dennis Spaeth for help in instructions and training as a zone chairman. July 18 attended the Zion Township installation and installed the new officers for 2014-2015 Lion Year. July 21 attended the Gurnee Lions Club meeting. Assisting them in training of the club officers and rebuilding the club. July 24 attended the Park Ridge Lions Club meeting to assist Lion Dennis Spaeth as a Zone Chair. Donald Dreessen Zone - ZC Kathleen Marusich June: 8 th - Gagewood Lions Club attended installation, 11 th - Visited Lions Club International, Oak Brook, 14 th - LIF Day at the Cell w/white Sox, 17 th - Arlington Heights Lions attended installation. July: 1 st - GMT/GLT Training, 19 th- - Lake Zurich Lions Alpine Fest worked ride ticket booth, 19 th - Zion Township Lions attended installation, 20 th - Lake Zurich Lions Alpine Fest sold raffle tickets, worked gate. Coming up: July: 25 th & 26 th Gagewood Lions Club selling tickets at Lake County Fair, 27 th - Buffalo Grove Lions Club attending installation. August: 21 st - Day Jamboree, 22 nd -24 th Regional Lions Leadership Institute, Bloomington, IL. Other: Several meetings w/ DG & CS for directory review & updates, President, Secretary, and Leo Advisor letters will go out week of July 28 th. Jimmie Harris Zone - ZC Susan Hastings - Letters ready to go out with directories. Paul Burgauer Zone - ZC Geoff Spaeth Last year was a learning experience. Has revamped his letter. Has set zone meeting dates. Looking forward to this year. ZC Geoff will talk with RC Alan about bringing the CEP Process to Fox Lake as they have asked for it. It is recommended that a non club member facilitate this training. 2VDG Barb Lahtinen- Evanston Sunrise Lions have contacted her regarding the CEP Process. Northfield Farmers Markets on Saturday. Don Dennstaedt Zone - ZC Dennis Spaeth Apologized for being a Spaeth. Has emailed letter to clubs and is ready to meet with the Park Ridge Lions this week. Has set dates for zone meetings. 2

Cabinet Committee Chairs: Bowling/District District Bowling will be February 15, 2015 in Buffalo Grove. Lion Jack Brey suggested Arlington Lanes Bowl. The District Governor suggested a new venue and is in touch with Lion Jim Jerousek. Bowling/District-9 pin no tap will be September 27th at Bertrand s in Waukegan. Budget & Audit - Tom Porte Met with the committee and the budget proposal was sent to the cabinet. Campaign and Liaison - PDG John McCann Teleconference with PID Russ Sarver this week. PDG McCann noted he will report on this committee since there may have been activity during convention. Club Excellence Program - PDG French DuGay - PDG French stated that as he is moving to Michigan, his role will be assumed by PCC Mike Baumer. The PDG s of 1F have been sent letters requesting their help with the CEP, the response has been positive. State chair Jama Wahl will come up to 1F to facilitate the training. Gurnee has completed the CEP and RC Alan has been appointed as their Guiding Lion. Zion is almost near completion, and 2 more clubs Evanston Sunrise & Fox Lake will be starting. ZC D Spaeth noted that his club, Buffalo Grove would also like CEP. In November, PDG s French & Larry will be facilitating the CEP Workshop at the MD-1 Forum. DG Steve stated that MD-1 offering monies from the budget to reimburse clubs for the CEP books. Club Tax Compliance No report. Constitution and By-Laws - PDG Larry Spaeth Review policies. Make sure compliance with State and LCI. Revisions should be made and updated. PDG Larry will bring to cabinet in a future meeting. Funds move from one account to another. Would like to maintain checking account and let other account remain dormant. Motion made by 1VDG Marty Reading to close inactive account and transfer to active account. Second by ZC Sue Hastings. Discussion. Motion carried. Convention-District - Martha Garlock/ZC Kathleen Marusich Convention will be March 6-8, 2015 at the Renaissance North Shore Hotel in Northbrook. DG Steve reviewed the list of convention responsibilities and had suggestions for each with the zone chair being the main point of contact with full responsibility for each task. RC Alan will oversee the clubs that are helping. Convention-International No report. Convention-2017 - Cynthia Spaeth Cynthia stated on August 2 nd she would be attending a committee meeting in Bloomington for the Lions 2017 International Convention. She would like to crease a disc and have a hard copy of the Ins & Outs of attending an international convention. PDG Bill Jordan is also on this committee. 1 st VDG Marty & Lion Mary Reading have been asked to attend the committee meeting. She noted they will be selling convention pins for $5 and there will be a set of 3 available. Convention-State - Cynthia Spaeth May 22, 2015 in Springfield. Dates not locked in. PDG Jordan in charge of Sergeant-at-Arms Committee. Disaster Fund - PDG Tom Laws Tom Porte is mentor in Mount Prospect club for disaster. Help in district and state. Now a committee not tied to cabinet treasurer. Fall Fundraiser - 2VDG Barb Lahtinen has a save the date flyer. Friday, October 24. Getting quotes for venues. It will probably be held at The Grove. Getting committee together for the Halloween Bash. Forums-MD-1, USA/Canada - 1VDG Marty Reading USA/Canada - Has forms for Puerto Rico September 11-13. Next year will be in Grand Rapids September 10-12, 2015. MD-1 will be November 8 in Bloomington. It is an opportunity to get leadership training. L.C.I.F. - IPDG Molly Penny - $199,744 raised statewide. PID Wahl received our 4 th star for membership. Leos No report. 3

Lioness - Bill Butchart EGV Lioness continuing for another year. Year to year at 18 members. Have membership chairman. Meetings 2 nd Monday of the month. LPCCI / Area Director MD-1 - PDG Tom Laws thanked District 1F for their participation. District is always in the top 5 in the US for monetary support. Said he received a plaque for area director of the year 2013-2014 for all of the U.S. District Newsletter/ State Magazine - No report. Nominating Committee No report. Peace Poster - PDG Paul Pioch - Peace Poster contest theme is Peace, Love and Understanding. Information is on LCI. Publicity No report. Recognition No report. Sunshine - Mary Reading informed everyone that if they would like someone recognized to send her the name, club name an address of person the card should be sent to. Flowers were sent to PDG Hook s funeral. If you would like to donate stamps or cards, or help please contact her. Web Master - Jack Brey said he is in the process of a total revamp of the website. Within the next two weeks we will move to the new version. Lions of Illinois Foundation Foundation Trustee 2vdg Barb reminded everyone about the Candy Day Jamboree on August 21 at the Lake Zurich Loins Den. Please RSVP. Birdies for Charity No report. Camp Lions - Jack Brey said there is a coordinators meeting on 7/27. Diabetes Awareness No report. Hearing Services and Deaf Activities - Ron Niemaszyk will be attending the coordinators meeting 7/27. Key Ambassador - PDG Larry Spaeth said LIF is working on replacing PDG Hook. There is a meeting 7/27. Low Vision Screening No report. Memorials and Endowment - No report. Sight and Sound Sweepstakes - Maggie Jabeck introduced herself. She is looking forward to the year. Walk for Sight/5K - Susan Borgwardt reminded everyone the Walk is September 28 at Century Park in Vernon Hills. Other service organizations can earn a 50/50 split. There will be food, a silent auction and maybe a dog demo. Old Business: None. New Business Cynthia Spaeth said a copy machine has been donated. Anyone needing copies let her know. 2VDG Barb said she has directories to be distributed. She will handle the district shirt order. 4

DG Steve said if you do not want to use Priority Promotions to order your shirt from feel free to use whomever you want. Closing Remarks 2nd Vice District Governor Comments: 2VDG Barb thanked everyone for their support. 1st Vice District Governor Comments: 1VDG Marty thanked everyone for their support. Changes to streamline and rebuild. New committees are forming. Want to get clubs more involved. District Governor Comments: DG Steve said his main goal is to work with clubs that have less than 20 members. A dead zone does not exist. Fix it and fix the district. Zoners will be assigned to work harder on those clubs. We have leadership problems, nut membership problems. Do the Right Thing. Concentrating on CEP, GMT and GLT. Looking at four year plan with Council of Governors and governor s team. VDG s have say at DG Council meetings.
