Orientation year for graduates: Zoekjaar afgestudeerde Bachelor / master grad from Dutch university / hogeschool Immediately after your studies, valid for one year from date of graduation Application for a residence permit with the purpose of residence 'looking for work and carrying out work whether or not as an employee' (foreign national). No work permit required during the year, for any job No income criteria applicable during orientation year Copy of diploma or Statement Declaration completion study. 13
Found a job? You must take out Dutch public healthcare insurance (basiszorgverzekering) Change your residence permit before orientation year expires. 14
Orientation year for highly educated migrants Regeling hoogopgeleide Master / PhD grad from Dutch university / hogeschool or top university abroad Application within three years of graduation Application for a residence permit with the purpose of residence 'looking for work and carrying out work whether or not as an employee' (foreign national). No income criteria apply during the year. When you want to work, a work permit is required may not be easy! 15

Highly skilled migrant scheme (Kennismigrantenregeling) Aim: to attract and retain talent for the Dutch employment market Advantages: No work permit required for you for job as highly skilled migrant. Your partner is free on the labour market to do any job without a work permit. IND decides within 2 weeks on (complete) application Conditions: Employment contract Salary conform salary criteria 17
Conditions highly skilled migrant You need to be employed (employment contract) Employer needs to have a contract with the IND: Check the list of employers on the website of IND at https://ind.nl/en/business/public-register 18
Salary criteria: 30 years and older ( 4.048,- p.m.) younger than 30 ( 2.968 p.m.) after orientation year, regardless of age* ( 2.127 p.m.) No salary requirement for academic staff at universities (only minimum wage is required) * Only when application is done before orientation year has expired. 19
Scientific research under directive 2005/71 Aim: to attract and retain research talent for Dutch research Advantages: No work permit required for you for job as researcher Your partner is free on labourmarket to do any job (without work permit) IND decides within 2 weeks on (complete) application No employment contract required (helpful for researcher on scholarship) No salary requirements 20
Conditions: Degree which allows access to doctorate level Research institute must have agreement with IND 50% of time on research activities Guest agreement compulsory 21
