Our President s Message Dear HCBA Members, 2019 has started out with a bang at the Hidalgo County Bar Association! With three of our Law Sections fully engaged hosting Lunch CLEs and committee meetings we have been very busy. The Real Estate Law Section will soon start their monthly events. With all the activities going on we have seen an increase in membership. Please continue supporting HCBA and our Law Sections so that we can continue to achieve and maintain a healthy and thriving bar association. The Women s Bar Section, Chaired by Liz Cantu and a great WBS committee, has been very busy. The Lunch CLE on January 8 th with Judge Letty Lopez and Judge Rose Reyna at Judge Lopez Courtroom and 41 female attorneys in attendance was a huge success! The Mindfulness & Meditation Social Mixer at the Radisson McAllen Airport was well attended and a great opportunity to learn about taking care of yourself. WBS is currently working on the 2019 International Women s Day photo with the Judges at 12 noon on Friday, March 8 th at the Hidalgo County Courthouse. Ladies please allow time to find parking and set up for the picture. The WBS March Lunch CLE with Attorney Jana Whitworth speaking on Bankruptcy Law will be held on Tuesday, March 5 th at 12 noon at Wingman Pizza, formerly Russo s Pizza. Please register online at www.hidalgobar.org. The WBS Annual Justice is Served Bar-B-Que will be held on March 28 th at Alyssa s Acres. We are pleased to say that the Women s Bar Section now has 76 members. Great Job Ladies! The Family Law Section held their Lunch CLE with 275 th District Court Judge Marla Cuellar and 206 th District Court Judge Rose Reyna as guest speakers, at the 275th Courtroom on February 21 st with much success! Great Job Judge Cuellar and Judge Reyna! Thank you for sharing some very important information with our members. Also, thank you to Edwards Abstract and Title Company for sponsoring lunch at the courthouse. Mark your calendar for the next Lunch CLE on Thursday, March 21, 2019. The Estate Planning & Probate Law Section Lunch CLE was held on Thursday, February 7 th at Edward s Abstract and Title Company. The attendance was exceptional with over 48 people joining us to listen to Judge JoAnne Garcia provide great information about the Probate Court and the question and answer session. Lunch was sponsored by our friends at Rio Bank and Tim Sers. Thank you Jose Cano and Tim Sers, Co-Chairs of the Estate Planning and Probate Law Section for the great work you are doing and the upcoming 2019 events. Mark your calendars for our Annual David H. Women s Bar Section Justice is Served Bar-B-Que will be held on Thursday, March 28 th at Alyssa s Acres. Several Judges and Ricardo Rodriguez, DA, have all agreed to participate in different events, including the Dunk the DA and Drench the Defense Dunking Booth and pie eating contest. You won t want to miss this opportunity! 2019 HCBA David H. Hockema Civil Law Conference will be held Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Casa de Palmas Renaissance with a wonderful group of faculty presenting on topics of importance to you! Check out the Agenda in this newsletter. HCBF Law Day Gala will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019. The Committee, Chaired by Alyssa Romero, have announced this year s theme A Day at the Kentucky Derby and they are working on the details.
