April 14th Our Gathering on April 14th begins with a tour of the Indian School Music/Band Building, beginning at 11 AM (precisely 11!). After our tour we will commence to our Council Member Voting and lunch at the Native Health Building, beginning at Noon. At 2:00 PM, we will reconvene at the nearby YOSHI s Restaurant for our April Board Meeting. All are welcome to attend! We apologize for moving around so much, but we have a full Saturday packed with tours and business for Valley of the Sun Cherokees!! 11:00 AM TOUR of the INDIAN SCHOOL MUSIC/BAND BUILDING Indian School Music/Band Building (Visitor Center) 300 E. Indian School Rd. (Inside of Indian Steele Park) PLEASE NOTE LOCATION AND PARKING INFORMATION. You may send Dawes Roll lookup requests to rolls@cherokee.org. VSC Cherokee Member Spotlight Laurie Eldridge Birth place: Beech Grove, Indiana, located on the south side of Indianapolis. Interests: I love to read for pleasure and I love to travel. I have been to France, Belgium, Lichtenstein, Italy, Ghana, Finland, Russia, Iceland, Sweden, Estonia, Canada and Mexico...and I will be travelling to Iceland and Britain this June. Favorite Food: Frybread with honey!! Favorite Place: My couch at home, but I love going to Tahlequah Cherokee Ancestor: My all time favorite Cherokee Ancestor is my father, Woodrow Wilson Eldridge. He was born in 1922, two years before Native Americans received citizenship, in Hominy Oklahoma. He and his twelve sibling were orphaned with he was 5 years old. He grew up in the Murrow Indian Orphanage on the grounds of what is now Bacone Collage and attended Chilocco Indian School for middle school and high school. He was in the Air Force in WWII and was a career firefighter in Indianapolis. He passed in 2001 ***Included a picture of Laurie's father and his family diuring WWII and picture of him as an elder wearing his favorite Pendleton jacket. The picture of Laurie is when helping cook a meal in Oaxaca Mexico. *
