Carpinteria First Regular Meeting Minutes July 7, 2016 Page 2 Recommendation: Discuss coordinating advertising efforts with State Park Representative. Vice Chair Donaldson introduced Victor Bjelajac, District Superintendent of the Channel Coast District, California State Parks. The Committee explained the concept of First Friday and why they want to encourage visitors of the State Park to shop and dine at the local businesses and restaurants in the City. Member Barbieri inquired how the State Parks could help promote First Fridays. Mr. Bjelajac said that First Friday flyers could be posted at the State Park kiosks and near the restrooms. He proposed that a link of the First Friday webpage could be posted on the State Park s Facebook page and he would look into it. Vice Chair Donaldson suggested that the First Friday ad showing the monthly themes and dates be sent to Mr. Bjelajac instead of the monthly ad in the Coastal View News. Vice Chair Donaldson asked if the Committee could put up a First Friday banner at the State Parks. Mr. Bjelajac recommended the banner be about half the size of a whiteboard and attached to something one could place in the ground. He added that digging holes in the State Park for this banner would trigger an environmental evaluation of the area. The Committee decided to instead repurpose an existing Carpinteria First sandwich board sign. Member Lang briefly left the meeting and returned at 8:57 am. Vice Chair Donaldson asked that the Committee be updated on the status of the State Park Map. Staff Liaison Barrett said that he would include this item at the next meeting. Vice Chair Donaldson asked if there was an opportunity for the State Park to hand out the Shop, Play, Dine, Stay brochures to visitors. Mr. Bjelajac responded affirmatively and Staff Liaison Barrett said he would provide him with them. Vice Chair Donaldson left the meeting at 9:15 am and returned at 9:17 am and Staff Liaison Barrett left the meeting at 9:18 am and returned at 9:20 am. The Committee discussed the need to update the Shop, Play, Dine, Stay brochures due to business turn-around and asked that the matter be added to the next Downtown- T Business Advisory Board meeting. Staff Liaison Barrett responded affirmatively. Staff Liaison Barrett mentioned that Kirsten Ayars with Ayars and Associates, would like to hold an overview meeting for the Linden Ave. & Casitas Pass Rd. Interchanges project at the August meeting and also have representatives from the Avocado Festival, Rods & Roses, Halloween Trick or Treating, Surf n Suds, and the Carpinteria Triathlon. Member Lang suggested that Victor Bjelajac be invited to the meeting.

Staff Liaison Barrett assured that the approved design would also be incorporated into the repurposed sandwich board sign.
