Wisconsin Lions Multiple District 27-C2 District Cabinet Minutes Lake of the Torches Lac Du Flambeau July 30th, 2017 1:00-3:34 PM 1. Call to order by DG Ron Behm 2. Pledge of Allegiance led by DG Ron Behm 3. Prayer led by 1 st VDG Collette Sorgel 4. Song led by Lion Judeen Knott 5. Roll Call/Sign Attendance- See Attached 6. Approve Minutes of May 2017: Motion by Lion Shirley Lemke and seconded by Lion Sandy Larson to approve as sent. Motion carried. 7. Treasurer s Report-Discussion about the amount of money in the Diabetes fund and if some could be forwarded to WLF to support Wisconsin Lions Camp. Lion Dick Garrow and Lion Janice Scheller, district co-chairs for Diabetes are new to the position and will check with any expenses needed for the district to support their efforts and report back to the cabinet at our October 8 th meeting for further discussion. Discussion ensued related to the vision screening dollars in the report. Lion Dennis Hirtz reported on the history of the combination of the fund for adult and youth vision screening dollars and expenses include purchase of new screening equipment or parts for current equipment, insurance and other items for support of the district vision screening efforts. A motion by PDG Greg Krug and seconded by 1 ST VDG Collette Sorgel to file the presented report for audit. Motion carried. 8. Old Business: a. Audit report for 2016-2017. See attached report from PDG Dennis Knott. A motion made by Lion Dennis Hirtz and seconded by PDG Harry Helwig to approve the 2016-2017 audit report as submitted. Motion carried. 9. New Business a. Presentation of the Proposed 2017-2018 Budget. PDG Dennis Knott provided a summary of the budget. 1. Meals: Discussion ensued whether to have meals before the cabinet meeting. A motion by Lion Dennis Hirtz and seconded by Lion Judeen Knott to decrease the meal line item from $1700.00 to $1200.00. Motion carried. 2. GMT/GLT funds: This has been renamed as the Global Action Team. There was no money placed for this category. There is $250 from International but PDG Roger Weber reports we do not meet the criteria. A motion was made by PDG Dennis Knott and seconded by Lion Sandy Larson to place $500.00 in this line item from the Meals line item. Motion carried. 3. Peace Poster Contest Winner: Lion Judeen Knott said the winner for the district receives $100.00. It was noted this would come from the

miscellaneous line item. A motion by PDG Don Ashby and seconded by PDG Harry Helwig to approve the 2017-2018 C2 district budget with the approved changes. Motion carried. 10. Committee Reports (Please send in report if available for review/or please limit your presentation to 5 minutes. If more time is needed, DG Ron will decide at that time.) District Governor: DG Ron Behm presented IPDG Mike Lorbetske with a plaque honoring his past year as DG. DG Ron, noted the International Theme is The Power of We. He presented pins to the zone chairs, 1 st VDG and cabinet secretary for their positions. He noted we have two zone chair position are open if anyone knows of someone in these zones who would be interested to please contact him. He had his first Council of Governor s meeting yesterday. There is training for 1 st and 2 nd VDG at the same time. 1st VDG: 1 st VDG Collette reported she is attending trainings, webinars and networking with others now. IPDG: IPDG Mike thanked everyone who was on his cabinet this past year for their assistance. Affiliate President: ADP Hope Doughtery provided a report for the cabinet. Please see attached report. Audit/Budget Committee: See attached report and motions related to these items earlier in the minutes. Bowling: No report Centennial Coordinator: Lion Sandy Larson reported 31 clubs reported activities with 11 of the 31 clubs reporting for the first time. We had 9 more clubs increase their activities from 1 to 4 stones for this past year. Credential/Elections Committee: No report. PDG Greg Krug confirmed with the cabinet their committee will continue to send out ballots etc for elections. Constitution/By Laws: No report. This position is open if anyone is interested, please contact DG Ron. Cultural and Community Activities: No report. It was noted nothing has ever been received from International about this position. DG Ron will check. Curling: No report District Awards: DG Ron reported he must have a list of potential awardees in by December 1 st. He knows many Lions/Lioness are doing great work for their communities and he would like the cabinet to let him know if there are members who he should consider for the various awards. Lion Patty Krug will review awards that are available with the criteria and provide a listing for the cabinet. District Convention: Lion Sandy Larson presented a report from the earlier district convention committee meeting. She will present to the cabinet at the October 8 th meeting a listing of potential breakout sessions for the convention. The convention is April 13-14, 2018. A motion by Lion Sandy and seconded by PDG Harry Helwig to approve the following prices for the district conventions meals: Friday evening reception: $15, Saturday Pasta Buffet lunch: $14 and Saturday evening Banquet: choice of $22 for Prime Rib or $20 for the stuffed pork chop or chicken entrée. Motion carried. 2

District Editor: Lion Pat Duncan asked all cabinet members to fill in a card with our information and asked us to consider doing an article on our positions for the state newspaper. She needs stories about the district activities, club activities, donations etc to promote our district. Please contact her to send articles. Diabetes Awareness & Action: Lion Dick and Janice are the new co-chairs for the district. Lion Dick reported our district received a plaque from WLF as the district with the most funds raised for Diabetes Strides activities. Environmental: No report Global Leadership Team: PDG Roger reported on the vacancy for 2VDG and two zone chairs. He did provide a document: Lions Leadership Profile. In the future we will list this as Global Action Team. Global Membership Team: No report GMT Family and Women s Specialist: Lion Rhae Ellen attended international convention and heard about the decreasing number of lions but there is an increase in the number of women lion s. DG Ron reported ID Connie LeClaire Meyer has asked the state to budget a line item for Women s Initiatives at the last council meeting. Hearing Preservation Awareness& Action: No report. Information Technology: See attached report. PDG Roger also reported on the new webmaster, Lion Bill, if you like something on the website contact DG Ron for approval. The link for our website is: http://md27c2.org/page1.htm International Convention: Lion Rhae Ellen reported on her activities and the USB drive that was provided with information. PDG Greg thought we had approximately 20 Lions at the convention including those attending the parade. LCIF: PDG Dennis Knott reported our district has an increase of 110% with donations this past year with approximately $18,755.00 donated. A reminder to clubs if you have $1000 in this fund, you can name a Melvin Jones Fellow. All clubs should list an LCIF coordinator so they receive correspondence. Leo s: PDG Harry provided a report on the Rhinelander Leo s. Lion Pat Duncan thanked the Leo s for the article written for the state newspaper. Lions Eye Bank: PDG Greg reported on his activities this past month with the eye bank and his first board meeting. He informed the committee about Sight First from Seattle who is now seeking partners for the same services currently provided the Lions Eye Bank. Long Range Planning: Lion Sandy Larson provided an update. Report will be sent. MyLCI: Lion Patty Krug reported we will provide training at zone meetings in the future for secretary s and presidents. Marketing and Communications: No report 3

Peace Poster: Lion Judeen Knott reported information has been provided to schools and kits are available until October 1 st. The theme is Future of Peace. Pins: IPDG Mike reported we will not change district pins this year. Our district pins are available for purchase. Raffles: District: The cabinet agreed to do our district raffle same as last year with maintaining some of the funds in the district. Reading Action Program: PDG Shirley has not received any information on this program. Sight Preservation Awareness & Action: Lion Dennis Hirtz reported schools are done with vision screening until the fall and adult vision screening has slowed down. Tail Twister: Has raffle tickets available for our raffle today. USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum: This will be held in Portland Oregon in September. 1 st VDG Collette and Lion Dave will be attending. Webmaster: Lion Bill Kriegle is our new webmaster. His email is billkriegel@gmail.com if you would like to send him information about any events your club is sponsoring to be listed on the website. No other report. Wisconsin Lions Foundation: PDG Shirley Lemke and PADP Deb Folwarski provided information. See attached Messenger concerning Hustle S more on August 19 and the Lion Camp for Kids raffle. There are water bottle stickers yet, and eye screening and stickers available for clubs to use. There was also a suggestion to get pencils from Leader Dog and you could hand out the pencil and stickers to children after their eye screening. There were 41 clubs who provided financial support to WLF this past year for $62, 831.41 from our district. There were 144 teams from the state who participated in the Birch Sturm golf tournament. WI Missions: IPDG Mike provided an update. Youth Exchange: DG Ron will be attending the August 3 rd Youth Exchange with other District Governors. He encouraged the cabinet to host youth in the future and the experiences he has had with his exchange students. Zone Chairs: a. Lion Mary Ann Stroinski: She is planning a zone meeting for the fall. b. 1 st VDG Collette has not found anyone to replace her. IPDG Mike reported Lion Emmy Lorbetski will assume this region zone chair. c. Lion Dennis Hirtz: He has sent emails to clubs with information. d. PDG Dennis Knott: DG Ron and him are seeking someone to replace PDG Dennis and have some potential candidates. e. Taylor County does not have a zone chair but PDG Shirley and Greg will seek someone to fill this position and will have a zone meeting on September 11 th at the Whittlesey Lions Ballpark and invited DG Ron to attend. 4

f. Lion Mary Johanik: No report, she could not attend due to their Lions event held today. g. Lion Bob Bertch: He has assumed this position for their zone from Lion John Ader. h. Lion Greg Tobish: No report, it is noted after the meeting, Lion Greg will not continue, please contact DG Ron if anyone is interested in serving as Zone Chair. 11. Closing Comments: Next Cabinet meeting is October 8 th at the Days Inn and Suites in Rhinelander, Wisconsin on Stevens Street. A reminder there will not be a meal. District Convention Planning meeting in the am and cabinet meeting starting a 1 pm. Raffle prizes were presented. 12.
