PRESIDENTS MESSAGE Next Scheduled Meeting Date: February 11, 2014 Time: 11:30 am - 1:00 pm Place: The Holiday Inn Express - 9933 Mayland Dr. Richmond, VA. 23233 Speaker: Dave Butts Topic: Fuel Oil Piping Systems come to another meeting to receive that. Sorry the newsletter is after our January meeting but it works out better this way. This month at our meeting, we awarded the Richard L. Clark Mentoring Award to Kevin Sherlock of HCYU. I have been very blessed to have learned from some of the great mentors like Dick Clark, Kevin Sherlock Glenn Rose, Bill Brandt and more during my career as a Plumbing Designer. I was able to work for more than 12 years of my career with Kevin Sherlock, so I was very happy to have Paul Greenburg nominate him for this award. Larney Clark, Richard (Dick) Clarks son was able to present the award to Kevin. Larney worked with Kevin Sherlock, Lewis Breedlove and myself way back in the 80's. So it made the award even more special to have him there. By the way Kevin 2 if you read this, I forgot to give you your $50.00 gift card. I guess you will need to Please read Paul's letter to nominate Kevin on page 6 of this newsletter and the photo on page 5. Please don't miss next month when we have another special mentor that will receive the award. We have started the series of classes for the Plumbing Design Review (CPD Prep). It's a full class with a mix of twenty eight P.E, Designers and Contractors. Rob Grubbs and Wes Bonafe were our first instructors with great reviews. I hope that this class can continue in the future to be a success. The bleeding has stopped, the final LEED class is over. With very low turnout our Richmond Chapter has taken a hit due to the cost of the instructors for this class. Even though the turnout was low, the class was very informative and I myself took a lot from it. Please see on page 9 the application form for VA Code Official VPMIA Joint Conference. The conference will be held on April 2, 3, and 4th at the Holiday Inn Richmond Airport. Please see the attached form for more information on type of classes, time and dates. Hampton Roads Satellite Chapter News Happy New Year to all! Just wanted to say thanks to all for supporting the ASPE Hampton Roads Chapter. It is important to note that without your attendance to monthly presentations, table tops, etc it would not be possible. The topic for January was Hot water recirculation by Chuck Learch. We had a good turnout and Chuck spoke well on all aspects regarding the design of hot water recirculation system. Special thanks to our table top sponsors of Jay Otto (Otto Sales) and Steve Cooper (Carotek). The ASPE Hampton Roads Chapter has done last year. So far we have accomplished the following: 1) Formed a board consisting of a President (Myself), Vice President (Rick O Berry, BFA ), Treasurer (Shane Miller, V&G), and Secretary (Pat Goodman, Clark Nexsen). 2) Formed a non-profit organization for all the financials. This makes us completely independent on all financial matters. 3) Provided consistent monthly technical presentations for local and remote A/E Firms, contractors, and sales representatives regarding the plumbing discipline. 4) Contributed to our charity of choice. (Wounded Warriors Project) Our goals next year consist of continuing to grow the chapter. We also would like to start a consistent newsletter and develop a website. The topic for next month is fuel oil by Dave Butts from Core Engineered Solutions. Hope to see you all there!
