The service was conducted by Rev. Paul A. Whitlock of the Church of the Palms, Sun City, AZ. Among those attending were Arizona Society, SAR, members Warren (and Nancy Alter), Jim Heller, Jan Huber, Mike Jones, Loren Littlefield and Albert Niemeyer. The Kachina Society and the Tucson Chapter DAR had a joint Christmas meeting at the Rincon Mountain Grill at the Forty- Niners country Club. President Frank Pierce and Regent Mrs. Beverly Giordano presided at the meeting. The guest speaker was State C.A.R. President Gillian Alexander. She talked about her state project Soldier s Best Friend. This project only exists in Arizona and helps soldiers that are experiencing PTSD. The organization obtains then trains the service dog and the handler (the soldier). Most of the animals are found at the Humane Society, thereby, helping two lives. We had a delicious Brunch and exchanged Christmas ornaments. The combined meeting helped us to meet many new DAR members and guests. The meeting was interesting and fun. We hope to do it again next year. On December 17 we participated with SAR and DAR in Wreaths Across America at Evergreen Cemetery. It was a very cold and windy morning. Our members were involved in presenting and retiring the colors. Mrs. Sheron Jones, a member of the American Gold Star Mothers, was the Mistress of Ceremonies. Ms. Martha McSally, U. S. House of Representatives from Arizona s Second District was the keynote speaker. The local NBC news affiliate covered the ceremony. After the ceremony we laid wreaths on our fallen heroes graves. Tucson Chapter, SAR, joins America in Wreaths Across America Submitted by Al Niemeyer Overcast clouds were the order of the day as the Tucson Chapter Color Guard bowed with all America in a solemn tribute to our fallen veterans in the Wreaths across America project at Evergreen Cemetery on 17 December 2016. The Color Guard, accompanied by the Presidio Saldados, and the DAR, CAR and Ladies Auxiliary carried in the color with Penny Breedlove bringing in Drifter, a riderless/caparisoned horse, to symbolize our fallen soldiers. Theresa Williamson presented a Wreath at the Fallen Soldier memorial site. A four volley salute was then fired to our fallen soldiers by a Guard detail composed of Chapter and Soldado members. The ceremony was hosted by Gold Star Mother, Sheron Jones. Featured speakers were: Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Congresswoman Martha McSally, David Algeria of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Ann Henderson, a supporter of our Veterans. After the ceremony the assembled people scattered to place wreaths on the veterans graves.
