AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF DENTAL BOARDS 133rd AADB ANNUAL MEETING Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel October 18-19th, 2016 Denver, CO PROCEEDINGS Call to Order and Introductions: The 133 rd Annual Meeting of the General Assembly was called to order by Dr. Eva Ackley, AADB President at 12:30 p.m. CST on Tuesday, October 18th, 2016 in the Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel, Plaza Ballroom, DE, Denver, CO. Adoption of Agenda: A motion to adopt the agenda with the proviso that the President could reorder items if necessary was made, seconded and passed by general consent. Dr. Ackley stated general remarks of courtesy and conduct becoming a member while in attendance of a meeting. Dr. Ackley introduced the members of the AADB Board of Directors, AADB ED and recognized special guests. Dr. Ackley asked past presidents to stand and be recognized. Dr. Ackley requested new members to approach the microphones and introduce themselves. Dr. Ackley also recognized the exhibitors attending the meeting and stated that they will be introduced later in the meeting. Dr. Ackley expressed her gratitude to Ms. Diane Howell for helping us with the audio-visual coordination for this meeting. Dr. Ackley introduced Dr. Jill Burns, Chair of the Program Committee and AADB President- Elect, having created a program that allows lots of member interaction and encourage attendees to take advantage of the opportunity to engage with other state board members. Dr. Ackley announced the availability of a back room and access to a second room if any group would like to have a private meeting. Dr. Ackley announced the mega topic discussion portion of the program. She stated that the meeting packets contained a card with an assigned table number for this portion of the program. She stated that it was expected some good fun and conversation to come out of this event. Approved by the General Assembly at the 2017 AADB Mid-Year Meeting. Page 1 of 7
Dr. Ackley alerted attendees as to the time and date within the program when caucuses will be meeting which she point out was later this afternoon. She announced that caucus chair will have an agenda that will include nominations and elections for caucus chair, representative to the nominating committee, and also various committee and council appointments that will be available for appointment by AADB in addition to pertinent discussion items. Dr. Ackley acknowledged, commended and recognized all representatives to outside agencies currently serving in these kinds of appointed positions. He requested all representatives to outside agencies in attendance to rise to be recognized by the assembly. Dr. Ackley announced the raffle contest involving visiting the exhibitors booths for a chance to win $100.00. She provided details about the raffle contest. Dr. Ackley provided details about the two social functions of the program. One being the President s Reception the evening of the 18 th at 6:00 pm CST at South Convention Lobby and the Banquet Luncheon on the 19 th at noon CST at Plaza Ballroom F. President's Ackley Address: Dr. Ackley Presidential address touch upon the year s achievements, including but not limited to, the AADB website, Assessment Services Program, committee structure, finances, monthly ED news; She also touched upon the goals that were not met year such as 100 percent attendance from all state boards and jurisdictions. Dr. Ackley related about her Missions to Lebanon. She showed a picture of a clinic in Bteknai, Lebanon where she and her husband built along with rotary international in memory of my husbands parents. She related that the purpose of the clinic is to provide indigent care to the local village citizens. She related that local dentists volunteer their time while she and her husband are not in Lebanon. She related that a few years ago, they suggested they provide a dental health screening on all public elementary children before they start school each year. They then later found out that this is the first preventive dental care clinic in Lebanon. Dr. Ackley proceeded to present a photo of her daughter, Dr. Amy, visiting some Massai children in Tanzania. Dr. Ackley made some contemplative remarks of our mission as dentist, and board members and issues such as initial licensure, licensure portability, competency, and continued competency among many issues we face as dentist, and board members. In closing, Dr. Ackley acknowledged the AADB board of directors and our new executive director, Mr. Hetke who she characterized has jumped in with both feet and is already making huge progress with the organization. Dr. Ackley introduced the ADA President, Dr. Carol Gomez-Summerhays. ADA President's Address: Dr. Carol Gomez-Summerhays Presidential address touch upon the need for collaborative efforts between Trade Organizations and Agencies. Dr. Ackley introduced the AADB Executive Director, Richard Hetke, Esq. and the ED Presentation of the State of the Organization. ED address touch upon the many achievements of the year, including but not limited to, the AADB website, Assessment Services Program, committee structure, finances, and monthly ED news. Dr. Ackley reported that a quorum was present. Attendance was 182 persons. Nominating Committee Report - Dr. Jill Burns, President-Elect and Acting Chair of the AADB Reference Committee. Dr. Burns, President-Elect and Acting Chair of the AADB Reference Committee acknowledged the efforts of the 2016 AADB Nominating Committee under the Chairmanship of Dr. George Buck Conard, AADB Past-President. NC Report: Dr. Jill Burns presented to the assembly the Report the 2016 AADB Nominating Committee which produced the 2016-2017 AADB Slate of Officers and Directors to serve with Dr. Jill Burns, currently President-Elect. She reminded that the caucus rooms are listed on the program and that the President s Reception was at 6:00 pm CST at the South Convention Lobby. The General Assembly of the 133 rd Annual Meeting adjourned at 3:58 pm CST. Presentation of Past Presidential Plaque: Dr. Burns, 2016-2017 AADB President presented Dr. Ackley, 2015-2016 AADB President with a plaque from the Board of Directors as a token of their appreciation for her service as the 2015-2016 AADB President. Recognition of Citizen of the Year : Dr. Ackley bestowed the "Citizen of the Year" award to Mr. Maulid Miskell for his years of outstanding service to the dental profession and the public. The plaque was signed by Richard Hetke, Esq. AADB Executive Director and by Dr. Eva Ackley, AADB President. SESSION III: Dr. Ackley opened Session III of the General Assembly of the 133 rd Annual Meeting at 1:00 p.m. CST on Wednesday, October 19th, 2016.
