Board Minutes for Saturday October 27, 2018 1) All members present with the exception of Jim Shands, Ed Smith and Bill Zell. Also attending the meeting was Chip Wukitsch, Miles Young and Jerry Misko. 2) After the joke of the day, the 1st order of business was a review of the recent election of Officers and board members. A recap showed 63 ballots were cast with 1 voided. Dave Bouyea and Bob Muller counted the votes. Chip Wukitsch will replace Mike Smith as recording Secretary and Mike Smith along with Bruce Johnson will join the board of directors. Ed Smith and Bob Gigante were not reelected. 3) Bob Gigante who has served as picnic chairman over the last couple years announced he would not be organizing the picnic in 2019. He reminded the board that the reservation needs to be made on January 2, 2019 to reserve the space. Bob said he would help out with the cooking, etc. Thanks to Bob for all his past service. 4) The board unanimously approved the quality and printing of the newsletter by Chris Shands of Archangel Coins. The cost remains the same as the previous Costco price. 5) The next November LVNS club meeting was discussed. This would be the last chance to submit guesses for the price of silver game. The 8th annual Great Turkey Race would also be played at the November meeting. The board approved the usual array of prizes. A special auction of approximately 20 lots from club inventory would be offered. 6) A sample ballot for the outstanding service award was approved by the board. The coin and plaque will have to be acquired and made ready for presentation at the December banquet. 7) Next the board was shown the generous contributions given to the club by McMannus Auctions. 8) A discussion to start planning the 2019 LVNS calendar was conducted. A special multi day trip to visit the ANA headquarters in Colorado Springs, possibly in the fall, was talked about. We would further explore the possibility and arrangements. 9) Congratulations to our YNs and Jim Rhodes for an outstanding program and auction at the October meeting. $250 in commissions was split between the club and the YN account. 10) The Vegas Coin Show will be returning to the new Palace Station on Friday-Saturday-Sunday, November 16-18. The LVNS will have a table to promote the club and setup some displays. 11) The Installation and Holiday Banquet will take place here at UUMC on Saturday December 8, 2018. The affair will be catered as in the past. A free raffle with prizes of Gold and Silver will be offered to the attendees. Entertainment and table prizes will also be offered. Fred Kuch is now selling tickets. 12) UUMC update: delay with the builders have now given us till around September to stay in the hall. 13) Recent discussion regarding further investments of some LVNS funds have been scrubbed. 14) The board approved our usual holiday donations to several charities. 15) Meeting adjourned at 4:45 pm. 16) Next board meeting scheduled for Saturday, November 24. THE 2018 LAS VEGAS NUMISMATIC SOCIETY OUTSTANDING SERVICE AWARD BALLOT Each year the LVNS presents the Outstanding Service Award plaque at the Holiday and installation Banquet to honor a member who has performed and shown outstanding service to the club throughout the year. This year the presentation will take place at University United Methodist Church Saturday, December 8, 2018. This is a secret ballot and the winner will not be announced until then. Please vote for only one person who you feel deserves the award and cast your ballot at the next meeting on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Please see the list of past winners that are ineligible. At the last meeting on Saturday, October 13, 2018 voting was held for the officers and Board of Directors of the LVNS. All the candidates were given a chance to address the membership if they so pleased. The count and verification was conducted by Dave Bouyea & Bob Muller. Term of office is for one year starting January 1, 2019. Installation will take place at the Holiday Banquet on December 8, 2018 at the University United Methodist Church. Here are the results for the contested positions: For Recording Secretary Unopposed: Chip Wukitsch 6 Board of Directors will consist of: Dick Askew Maria Demeo Bruce Johnson Jimmy Migs Jim Rhodes Mike Smith All the other incumbent Officers remain the same. Bill Zell remains our honored immediate Past President and Fred Kuch, as Trust Chairman, automatically retain their seats on the board. The LVNS Golden Years club was formed to honor the Men & Women who helped organize our club from the beginning to our present day senior members. Approved members will receive all benefits of membership in the LVNS free of charge for the rest of their lives. Requirements: Anyone who has been a member in good standing for 5 previous years and has reached their 85th birthday. Induction will take place at the Annual Holiday Banquet. The prize will be a 5 ounce.999 silver round. The objective: To guess what the CLOSING PRICE OF SILVER WILL BE ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2018 based on Kitco s New York Closing price. How to play: Each month, thru the Nov. meeting, when members sign in, they can enter one (1) guess. Please use U.S. dollars and cents. All the entries will be kept secret and filed until the closing date. At the Banquet, on Saturday, December 8, 2018, the winner with the closest actual price, high or low, will be announced. In case of a tie, a single winner will be drawn from the qualifying entries.
