THE UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA HEALTH SCIENCES CENTER STAFF SENATE Regular Meeting Thursday, September 7, 2017 Library Auditorium GROUP MEMBERS PRESENT MEMBERS ABSENT Ex-Officio Members and Provost Designees Executive Committee Guest Speaker: Monica Teply; United Way Monica spoke of behalf of the United Way and updated us on what an impact our giving to United Way has on so many people s lives. This is done by either volunteering and or giving. United way is getting ready to kick off their 2017 Fundraising events, which they have over 120 programs they help fund. One of the newer programs this year is called ReMerge. turn their lives around so they are able to find jobs and become productive citizens. In Oklahoma one out of ten children have at least one parent who is incarcerated. Since this program has started, they have graduated 69 women and have helped 181 children. Kaitlynn Wilkinson: NorthCare. NorthCare is another partner of United Way, which is a Behavioral/Mental Health Center that also serves family based center for the ReMerge program. Artistic family members who are in the ReMerge program sell their artwork to give back to the program. The next Art Show will be September 28, 2017. Staff Senate Spotlight presented by Joseph Schmidt September 2017 Lauren Bristow, Sr. Administrative Assistant Depart. Of Pediatrics- Diabetes & Endocrinology Lauren has lived in 5 states, including Hawaii, while her husband was in the Marine Corps, he is now a police officer for their hometown. Lauren married her high school sweetheart whom she has been married to for 10 years, with 2 children a son, who is 10 and a daughter who is 3. Lauren graduated from Shawnee High school, and has recently completed her Masters in Management from Wayland Baptist University this spring. She has been employed at OUHSC for a little over a year and currently serves on Staff Senate Community Outreach and Special Projects Committees. Lauren supports OU & Navy as her sister is a Naval Academy Grad. She also loves to garden, traveling and motorsports. Lauren is a Cancer Survivor!! Lauren quoted: Staff Senate has afforded me the opportunity to see the University in a larger capacity. Meeting people from different departments work together in support of the health sciences center has been a blessing.

Community Outreach Committee presented by Dana Aduddell We just finished collecting our Cavatt Kids donations and we re still gathering those to deliver. We hope to provide everyone with the final numbers at the meeting next month. The committee has scheduled a meal to be served at the Ronald McDonald House inside Garrison Tower on October 24 th. The committee would appreciate any donations at that time. c. Employee of the Month Committee presented by Leslee Smith Lindsay Pettis, our August Employee of the Month, was recognized at her reception on Friday, August 25, at 1:00 pm in the University Health Club s snack bar. Even with all the rain many people came to celebrate and recognize Lindsay for her accomplishment. Our September Employee of the Month is Helen Howell, Sr. Resident Program Coordinator in the Department of Ophthalmology. Her reception will be held on Tuesday, September 19 th at 9:30 pm in the Gaylord Library located on the fifth floor of Dean McGee Eye Institute. Also, remember if you have someone in your office or interact with someone who is an outstanding staff member, who is a great representation of our OUHSC staff, and meet all qualifications, please submit their information.
d. Employee Recognition Committee presented by LaDonna Tyner Surveys returned after extending the deadline for additional input. Although the feedback received was helpful and appreciated, less than 20% attendees responded. We will be making some changes that will address some of the feedback, including returning to the buffet style lunch. Next year s preparations are well under way, the event will be on Friday, May 4 th, 2018, at the Embassy Suites Oklahoma City Downtown/Medical Center venue and the Emcee has been confirmed. The ERC committee will be meeting monthly. e. Special Projects Committee presented by Nicole Sorrick Excited about our upcoming fall/winter fundraiser. Also the Fall Craft Fair is on Friday, October 6, 2017, come out and support the vendors. Our fundraisers help support events like Staff Week! f. Staff Week Committee presented by Marty Walton Staff Week nothing to report as of yet as we have our first meeting this month and will be discussing themes and time frames. g. Shared Leave Committee Will continue to Promote Power of the Hour, Continue to share information about how much donating even 1 hour of your shared leave will help. V. Unfinished Business None VI. New Business None VII. Announcements Get out and support Wacky Games Friday, September 22 nd, Food trucks will be there. College of Medicine students are collecting supplies for Hurricane Harvey victims until Oct. 5 th. You may drop these items off at BSEB.
