Conflict Pacing 15-18 days Unit Overview The points of focus in this unit include developing an understanding of the influence of conflict on the development of a nation, the role of individuals and founding documents in the establishment of national identity, and the structure and function of government systems. Students will develop an understanding of Influence of conflict on the political, social, and economic development of the United States. Founding Fathers. Founding documents. How self-government in other parts of the world influenced the development of the United Branches of government. United States government was structured to meet the needs of the people. Unit Enduring Understanding(s) Conflict and/or war may influence a nation s political, social, and economic development. Battles can influence the direction and outcome of wars. Individuals can play an important role in society. Conflicting ideas can lead to debates and consensus about the nature of government. Governments are structured to address the basic needs of the people. The branches of government are complex system of checks and balances. A nation s founding documents reflect its basic principles.
