Chris Chen: Representative from Be the Match, a nonprofit based in Minneapolis for Bone Marrow Transplants, need to raise awareness of being a Bone Marrow Donor on campus and is asking for Senate s help in spreading the word 5. ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE CHAIR Had SJEC meeting which included orientation and Parliamentary Procedures Met with 49er Shops to address the issue of textbook affordability Attended Family Friendly Area opening of Library 7. Legislative Business 1) Action Item: SR #2019-04- Support Increased Voter Turnout (1 st Reading) Resolution is a conversation starter to make elections more of a priority and what are some ways to increase voter turnout on campus Students need more opportunities to make voting accessible and flexible If it s possible, maybe change the language of the resolution and take every circumstance into consideration (M) Kim (S) Contreras to approve SR #2019-04- Support Increased Voter Turnout (1 st Reading) B. Information Item: ASI President Genesis Jara Addressing concerns from meeting last week regarding respect of Vice President Almahdi Reminder to refrain from slander and maintain professionalism in their positions Attended Building the Future Event, Sept. 28 and represented ASI to help donate to programs throughout the university- raised $2,000 for Beach Pantry and $500,000 for Guardian Scholars Foster Youth Attended Alumni Association Volunteer meeting Media Company reached out to CSULB to feature student homelessness at CSULB and CSU Humboldt Attended Sustainability Mixer to bring together faculty and staff regarding sustainability Attended Academic Senate which is discussing GE policies Attended transportation forum at CSULA to discuss public transit options for students Attended grand opening for Family Friendly Library Area Will attend Latin X lunch with President Conoley on Friday Oct. 12 B. Information Item: ASI Chief Diversity Officer Sean Aquino Working on Conscious Collections art event which promotes diversity and inclusivity on campus Working on a boot camp with Jonathan from Beach Pride Events for Cabinet members on how to host effective events There has been a student concern of an individual being harassed by another student due to her legal status- concern was addressed by Commissioner Ortiz Looking for artists to showcase at Conscious Collections C. Information Item: ASI Commissioner for Cultural Affairs Daniella Hernandez Commissioner was not present. Contreras Attended Lobby Corps meetings Did student outreach to fill vacant ASI positions Outreach to clubs regarding tabling with Lobby Corps Created ASI Facebook page to advertise events and connect Had meeting with Judiciary regarding workshops from past semester and logistics for events Assisted Lobby Corps with National Voter Registration event Contacted parking services over issues regarding the way parking tickets are handled on campus and met with Senator Howansky to collaborate Meet with parking and transportation on Oct. 19 th, will present proposition for parking ticket reform Work with ASI com with the Voter Registration Video Collaborate with Greek Life for Sexual Assault Awareness Event in the next semester Meet with Emily Lopez and Robina Henson about grade appeal process and how It can be better suited for students Student organizations being forced to pay 50/hr for ASL interpreters, which is normally covered by DSS ASI budgets for organizations can be used for the interpreters 2) Sen.
