Swedish support enables UNDP to help nearly 170 countries to implement the 2030 Agenda and reach the Sustainable Development Goals, and to maintain a presence on the ground in some 150 countries and territories. In addition to funding, Swedish leaders in government, business, and academia give their expertise to fulfill the promise of a fair and more prosperous world. Highlights from Sweden-UNDP Partnership Gender Equality Sweden is a generous supporter of a UNDP, UN Women and UNFPA Joint Programme for gender equality in Georgia. More than 160% increase in number of women in parliament in 8 years 16 municipalities incorporated gender principles into their local budgets Democratic Governance and Human Rights Funding from Sweden supports democratic elections in Liberia and builds stronger institutions. Contributed to the registration of 2. voters nearly 50% women 13,300 polling staff trained for elections Peacebuilding UNDP, with support from Sweden, has helped Iraq stabilize after conflict. Created conditions for over Iraqis to return home 1,000 projects to restore infrastructure, public services and local economies 2.4 million people benefited from improved infrastructure 3
V Climate and Environment With generous support from Sweden, UNDP provides policy support on water management to many countries. 60 countries received support on water management Supported over 40 countries to fight corruption in water management Conflict Prevention Sweden generously supports a joint conflict prevention initiative by UNDP and the UN Department of Political Affairs. Supported democratic transitions, mediation, and peace processes in over 40 countries Partnerships to Promote the SDGs SIDA is a strong partner of UNDP globally and in Sweden in promoting and implementing the SDGs around the world. Norrsken Foundation partners with UNDP to advance sustainable development through tech and social innovation. The Swedish Postcode Foundation works in partnership with UNDP to raise awareness of the SDGs to the general public. The New Division by Trollbäck + Company and UNDP work together to communicate and create social engagement for the SDGs in Sweden. Dag Hammarskjöld Foundation and UNDP jointly organize a seminar series in Stockholm to highlight global issues related to the SDGs. United Nations Association of Sweden and UNDP are close partners in raising public awareness of SDGs and the work of the UN. 4
