3 Highlights from Germany-UNDP Partnership Promoting the SDGs Together with UNDP, Germany helps implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development on a global scale. The Germany-UNDP partnership has: Assisted 19 countries in aligning their national development plans with the SDGs Helped 43 countries monitor and report on SDG progress Organized the 1 st Global Festival of Ideas on the SDGs in Bonn Recovery from Crisis Germany and UNDP work together with countries affected by crisis to restore infrastructure, basic services and government institutions. In Libya, over 1 million people benefit from restored social services and infrastructure In Lebanon we are supporting the resilience of the communities most vulnerable to the impact of the Syrian crisis. Increased economic opportunities for 1.3 million Lebanese and refugees Implemented over 400 projects to create jobs and strengthen social services 3
4 Peace and Democratic Governance Germany s generous support helps UNDP to advance democratic governance and build peaceful and inclusive societies globally. UNDP- UNDPA joint initiative supports democratic transitions and peace in over 40 countries Local peacebuilding initiatives benefitted 2.7 million people in Jordan Helped advance human rights and rule of law in 34 crisis-affected countries In Iraq we are helping to stabilize areas newly liberated from ISIL and give confidence to people to restart their lives, through the highly innovative and high-impact Funding Facility for Stabilization. Created conditions for over 2 million Iraqis to return home Over 1,000 projects to restore infrastructure, services and local economies Over 2.4 million people enjoy improved infrastructure Climate Change, Renewable Energy and Environment We work together to help countries live up to their commitments under the Paris Agreement, such as by providing assistance in developing nationally determined contributions (NDCs) to reductions in greenhouse-gas emissions. As a leader on climate action, Germany, in cooperation with UNDP: Hosted 1 st Global NDC Conference on low-emission strategies Helped 38 countries partner with private sector for low-emission development Supported 26 countries in developing commitments to climate action after
5 Partnerships to Promote the SDGs The Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Federal Foreign Office helped establish the Global Campaign Center of the UN SDG Action Campaign in Bonn to inspire public action on the SDGs and incubate innovative efforts to fulfill the SDGs. Deutsche Welle has facilitated a wide range of innovative SDG promotions, such as data visualizations, virtual reality films, and citizen engagement, all powered by the UN SDG Action Campaign. The City of Bonn has produced a touring visual storytelling exhibition featuring people s testimonies from around the world on issues related to the SDGs. The German think tank Engagement Global is a core partner of the annual Global Festival of Action hosted by the UN SDG Action Campaign in Bonn. SWB, the Bonn public transport authority, ensured wide awareness and visibility of the SDGs across Bonn. 5
