1 Name: Period: Historical Compromise: Unit 2 Summative Assessment Essential Question: Can true compromise ever be achieved? People in a society don t always agree, especially in a democratic society where free thought and speech are encouraged. In order for a government in such a society to effectively meet the needs of its diverse people, the representative leaders need to make compromises. However, can true compromise ever be achieved? Review the U.S. compromises provided below. Select one compromise, and research it using the links provided. (You may use other reputable websites, but ONLY if they are operated by a university, museum, or government agency.) Take notes in your graphic organizer. After completing your research, evaluate whether the goal of the compromise was truly achieved. Make an argument by first stating a claim as to whether the compromise reached its ultimate goals. Use evidence from your multiple sources to support the claim. Part 1: U.S. Compromise Selection - Select a topic that matches your interest. Civil War Trust (many links below article) The Volstead Act (involves the 18 th and 21 st Amendments and the prohibition of alcohol) 1. National Archives - (read the summary and clink on primary documents) 2. United States House of Representatives: History, Art & Archives 3. PBS: Ken Burns Prohobition (read the articles & watch the videos) 4. National Archives (Prohibition & Crime) Part 2: Research Process, Product Options, and Schedule 1. All research, notes, products, and writing should be your own individual work. 2. You must use the links provided. You may use other reputable websites, but ONLY if they are operated by a university, museum, or government agency. 3. The final product may be one of the following options: Stop Animation Puppet Pals Written Essay Student Choice (Must be approved by Ms. Gavin.) 4. Post your final product to the Schoology Assignment Unit 2 Summative Assessment. 5. Whether your final product is written or media, a BIBLIOGRAPHY must be uploaded to Schoology with your product. 6.
