2 LOBBYIST NOTE INVOCATION PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE ROLL CALL APPROVAL OF MINUTES Present: Member Tragash,, Member Freedman, Member Lewis and Member Trachtenberg Absent: Member Ryan and Alternate Gonzalez SWEARING OF PUBLIC Motion by Member Lewis, seconded by Member Trachtenberg, to APPROVED PASSED unanimously. Approved, as amended, the minutes of the April 5, 2016 HEPB meeting City of Miami Page 2
3 AGENDA ITEMS D Monthly Update from City Staff - Commodore Ralph Munroe Marine Stadium Motion by Member Freedman, seconded by Member Lewis, that this matter be APPROVED PASSED by the following vote. HEPB-R Megan Schmitt, Preservation Officer, introduced Daniel Rotenberg, Director of the City of Miami's Department of Real Estate and Asset Management who in turn introduced Jason Clement, Director of Community Outreach for the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Justin Kissinger, Senior Director of Government Relations with Heineken USA. Clement and Kissinger have been working with various city departments on a Crowdfunding campaign to launch in the coming weeks to support the Miami Marine Stadium's ("Stadium") restoration. Kissinger discussed how Heineken USA launched a "Cities Campaign"whose goal is to make its major market cities, such as Miami, "just a little bit greater". The creative direction of "Save Your Seat"is being done with the hope to have consumers have a tangible connection to the campaign and "move the ball"on the restoration efforts for the Stadium. Other preservation efforts have been completed in New York City and San Francisco. Clement explained how the idea to sell the seats was originally Tony Goldman's. Clement further discussed how this initiative is the culmination of years of work to preserve the Stadium with the intent of rallying the general public to involvement. Don Worth, member of the public, added comments while presenting a PowerPoint presentation (a physical copy of which is available at the City of Miami's Historic Preservation Office). Member Freedman asked how Heineken became aware of the project to preserve the Stadium and how it decided to become involved. Kissinger responded that a local marketing manager working during this year's boat show spoke with locals at the event and took the idea to corporate at a time when the company was looking for its next project; it's become a passion project at Heineken. Vice Chair Lewis wanted to know what, if anything, they were looking for from the Board. Kissinger responded that their intent was to let the Board know of their plan, so that the public knows of the partnership that is being put in place. Vice Chair Lewis articulated the Board's appreciation for the representatives showing interest in preserving this locally-designated structure. Worth communicated to the Board that "something"is going to be heard at the City Commission meeting to be held on May 12, He encouraged the Board to say something regarding having heard the presentation, indicating it is a good idea and communicate to the City Commission that "it [the idea] is good". Assistant City Attorney Rafael Suarez-Rivas indicated that the Board could express its support through a motion, since this matter is not before the Board as an action item, and direct staff to include the motion as information back-up. Schmitt and Rotenberg indicated this would be a good idea. Member Freedman made a motion instructing staff "to prepare a resolution to the City City of Miami Page 3
4 Commission expressing the support of this Board for the project described by Heineken, for the seat campaign, and that the language is then approved by staff counsel and be sent out to the City Commission without further delay."suarez-rivas opined the motion was fine, even though the matter under discussion is not an action item, as it is not an official vote of the Board and it is not attached to an expenditure; further proffering potential language. Vice Chair Lewis provided a second to Member Freedman's motion. Vice Chair Lewis proffered additional language to indicate the Board's delight with seeing City staff working collaboratively. The motion passed by a vote of 5-0. City of Miami Page 4
