Agenda Amendment: the following Course Additions were added to the agenda under item V.I.A.5: MUS MUS 204 Music Promotions Practicum MUS MUS 201 Moguls in Music MUS MUS 307 Music Agency and Fine Arts Administration MUS MUS 312 Music in Media III. IV. Approval of Minutes A. First Regular University Senate Meeting, September 17, 2015 Approved by General Consent B. Second Regular University Senate Meeting, October - cancelled: no minutes Reports from Administrators A. Interim President Liberty 1. Dr. Clyde Hall was inducted as a Centurion in an off-campus ceremony 2. The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving is a global day of giving. Please consider a gift. 3. A video segment will be added to the holiday greeting from the university 4. Contact the Bradley Police department to schedule safety briefings. B. Interim Provost Sattler 1. Progress on the new Core Curriculum implementation is proceeding well 2. Graduate School marketing is going well with the largest graduate student class in 12 years. We are partnering with ICC for ESL classes. 3. The Study Bbroad program scheduled for Paris has been canceled due to world events 4. Deans, faculty, and Pearson Embanet staff are exploring opportunities for Distance Education Programs 5. An advisory committee for Distance Education is being established to advise the Provost. 6. Additional study spaces are being generated in the Library through furniture donations and purchases. 7. The Strategic Planning Committee is studying trends in higher education, planning improvements to the Academic Program Review guidelines, and developing a Higher Learning Commission Initiative for the HLC visit next year. 8. The Nursing Department received and excellent review from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. The Foster College of Business received an excellent report from the AACSB. 9. Dr. Jeff Huberman and Dr. Paul Gullifor reported on the Charlie Steiner School of Sports Communication to the Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee. Dr. Molly Cluskey and Professor Rachel Borton discussed the FPN on-line Senate Agenda, 3 rd Regular Meeting 2015 p. 5
6 program with the Board of Trustees Academic Affairs Committee. 10. A moment of silence recognized the passing of Dr. Nina Collins, Professor, Chair, and C.C. Wheeler Endowed Chair Emerita. C. Vice President Anna No report due to travel V. Report from Student Body President - Sarah Handler A. Student Senate hosted the Speak-Up Forum B. Student Senate participated in a joint cabinet meeting with the university administration C. Braver Together program has begun D. Burst-the-Bubble Campaign is underway. VI. Faculty Handbook Policy (Section B.2.b. p. 143): MOTION: Each College shall elect one faculty member and the University Election s Committee shall conduct the election of one at- large faculty member nominated and elected by all faculty, including librarians with faculty rank, to the Provost Search Committee. Motion by Mat Timm / 2 nd - Jean Marie Grant, Motion Approved MOTION: College Representative elections shall be administered by each college and the At-Large election shall be administered concurrently by the University Senate Committee on Elections. In the event an elected college representative is also elected as the At-large representative, that individual will be seated as the At-large representative and the 2 nd highest recipient of votes in that college will be seated as that college s representative. In the event an elected college representative is also elected as the At-large representative, the college election will prevail and the At-large candidate who finished 2 nd will fill the At large seat. (by Timm, 2 nd Evens) Final Amended and Approved MAIN MOTION: College Representative elections shall be administered by each college and the At-Large election shall be administered concurrently by the University Senate Committee on Elections.
