President's Report - Linda Ramas Corresponding Secretary s Report Kathy Sours 1. Received an from Sharon Dowell. She would like to find out if her Border Collie was the first to achieve an AKC Scent Work Master Containers title and an AKC Scent Work Advanced Overall title. She states that she was looking at the Versatility Program which includes scent work, but not the AKC s new scent work program that began on Oct, She stated that titles were listed through July, 2017, but nothing later than that. She is asking if this will be updated soon in the Versatility Program. She was also wondering why the UKC Nosework program was not included.

2 The titles report can be obtained from the New Titles Report (generated by Jamie Jackson-Swanson) and see the date it was earned and see if there are any Border Collies listed before the date she earned it or from AKC. 2. Received an from Cindy Geiss requesting approval to hold a designated Conformation Specialty including Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes in conjunction with the Thanksgiving Cluster All Breed Shows in W Springfield, MA on Saturday, November 24, They are anticipating to support the entries for Obedience, Rally, and Agility. The entire was sent to the Board. 3. Received an from a BCSA member wishing information on being a vendor for this year s National. Referred her to vendor information found on the BCSA website and advised her of the show chair s address. 4. Received an from Lorna Menaker. She states that the Pre-Disposition to Glaucoma DNA test is now commercially available via Animal Genetics. The test is being officially launched in the UK at the Scottish & Wessex Border Collie Club open shows on May 19th and 20th. She is proposing that this test be offered to BCSA members for their dogs. She states she would be willing to look into bringing DNA swab kits back to the USA after a visit to the UK the beginning of June or she could have PHBF ship a batch to an address of our choice, but the latter option would include payment of postage for the kits. A copy of this was sent to Board members on this date. Treasurer s Report Adrian Smith Financial Statement for April 2018 included below. Form 990-EZ for 2017 has been filed with IRS (as detailed in March report), and Kentucky Annual Report filing has been made ($15 charge). Online polling options for 2019 Nationals Judges Selection have been evaluated following the situation in 2017 where people were able to (and did) cast multiple votes through the website for 2018 Judge Selection, which complicated validation of votes and resulted in delayed release of results. A roster of voting members (currently 579) and updated contact details has been compiled in collaboration with Membership chair to facilitate the ballot. Recommendations have been made to the Judges Selection Committee to perform the ballot. Several tests were conducted and the process worked efficiently. The low cost option is recommended

4 March In my opinion these financial transactions are fairly represented in the Treasurer s reports for these time periods. The checking and savings accounts are accounted for and the transactions reflect to the best of my knowledge the business of this club. ROM Committee Jana Brady (Liaison Kathy Sours) Breeder Referral Committee Pat Charleton Judges Education Committee Kelly Whiteman Affiliate Club Committee Katie Rodgers Futurity/Maturity Committee Pam Norman Juniors Committee - Kasie McGee Health Committee Frances Hannan (Liaison Bob Tainsh) The Pastoral Breeds Health group in the UK has developed a DNA test for severe goniodysgenesis that is being marketed as a test for predisposition to glaucoma. It will be made available in the US in the near future. The genetic variant of the OLFML3 gene that was identified correlates only with severe goniodysgenesis and is based on a small sample size. Recommend waiting for more scientific data to become available before promoting to members. Table it for now. Regarding Border Collie collapse, Dr. Sue Thompson & Jim Nicolson have been researching exercise collapse syndrome and have an interest in this in Border Collies, They would like to continue with this research. They were approached by the American Border Collie Association, but their interest is more related to deafness (a test for deafness is about to be announced). Dr. Sue Thompson & Jim Nicolson would be delighted if the BCSA would help them with their current study which is to identify the genetic markers. They will accept blood or cheek swabs. They applied for a grant from the Morris Animal Fund but were turned down because it was too specific to Border Collies. Herding breeds and Whippets are affected by this. Jim Nicolson is submitting to AKC Canine Health Foundation and therefore would be eligible for BCSA funding through the Foundation if approved. Contracts from the hotels are moving along. All of the Venue Chairs are in place. In process of collecting all of the information for the premium list. Still working on applications. General Information booklet will be ready in May. The Logo is almost finished Julie Fuller is doing the embroidery design. Jeannie Santiago is doing the screen print logo, and possibly doing a print of the logo to frame. Nominating Committee Lisa Pruka Slate has been released. Delegates Report Lisa Pruka Next meeting in June.
