6 Section B, Page 2 1. Welcome and Introduction Gail Ure Gail welcomed both members and associates to the 63 rd Annual General Meeting. After the introduction of the Executives at the head table, she extended a special welcome to Alanna Sleep, Auditor, Glen Thompson, QCC Past President, Kathy Levine, QCC Legal Counsel, representatives of QCC s associate member organizations, QCC service partners and representatives from Ontario Seniors Secretariat, Ontario Pension Board, OPTrust, Consumer Protection Branch, Federated Health and Great West Life. Gail announced that the QCC is pleased to be part of the Seniors Liaison Committee. Non-voting members (associates) were requested to refrain from participating in any vote, which called for a show of hands. 2. Minutes of June 19, 2007 Annual General Meeting Don Benoit There were no comments or concerns regarding Minutes of June 2007 Annual General Meeting. Don, therefore, called for a vote of acceptance of the Minutes. Moved by member Don Benoit, seconded by Don Sangster, Minutes adopted as presented. 3. President s Report Gail Ure Gail briefly spoke about the Honours Awards held on May 21, The QCC was privileged to have the Honourable David C. Onley, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario attend the event to present the four honourees with the specially commissioned glass sculptures that mark the award. Shelly Jamieson, Secretary of Cabinet was also on hand to congratulate the honourees. Gail then called on Sylvia Davis, Chair of the Selection Committee to report on the 2008 QCC Honours Awards for Community Service. Past President and Selection Committee Chair, Sylvia Davis announced the four 2008 QCC honours awards recipients for community service. She read out a brief summary of their volunteer accomplishments. On behalf of the QCC Board of Executive and members present, Sylvia thanked the awards recipients for their collective years of commitment to voluntarism and for extending the high ideals of public service far beyond their careers. The 2008 Honours Awards recipients are: Page 2 of 7

7 Section B, Page 3 Dawna McArthur Marlene Buttery John McLaughlin Ileen Pat Howell - Lifetime Service Award. - Local Community Category. - Local Community Category. - Local Community Category. Sylvia urged the members present to pick up an application form for next year s awards program and to submit it on behalf of anyone they knew who might be well deserving of this recognition. She closed her remarks by mentioning that the deadline for receiving applications was now November 30, 2008 rather than December as it had been in previous years. Gail Ure thanked the Awards Selection Committee - chaired by Sylvia Davis, and capably assisted by past president Brian Riddell, and current Executives Art Daniels, Whipple Steinkrauss, Sybil Wilkinson and Elizabeth McKnight for volunteering their time and expertise for this worthy cause. Gail mentioned some of the initiatives undertaken by QCC during the past year: Recognition of the 15 year milestone, resulting in 10,500 new associate members. Production of the new Welcome Brochure. Commission of a survey, which was completed in the Fall of Continued the expansion of the QCC Discount Services. Addition of a new Preferred Service Partner Whitby Toyota. Continued sponsorship of both the London and Kingston Annual Golf Days. Together with the Provincial Interministerial Council (PIC) the QCC ran seven regional information and recognition seminars, throughout the province. Sponsorship of a retiree information event in Ottawa, where a multi-ministry retiree group has now been established. In 2007, QCC helped recognize 4,572 long service employees with a combined 110,920 service years. These employees fell into the long- service categories of 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years. Information exchange session held for QCC Coordinators in November Sponsorship of the OPS Quilt. Relocation Services has proven successful again this year and the contract was renewed for another term. Superior Tire and Auto has enjoyed a successful first year with the QCC. MEDOC travel insurance coverage enhanced. Home and Auto policies increased to over 14,000. Page 3 of 7

8 Section B, Page 4 Issued 283 Tilley Vouchers to QCC members traveling with Senior Tours since the last AGM. In closing, Gail thanked the QCC staff members, Talia, Judy, Nancy and Niki for a job well done in helping to deliver the various government service recognition programs and responding promptly to over 9,000 member queries received through phone calls, s and faxes. Gail also thanked Florence for leading the Discount Services and the year recognition. Our General Manager Jackie Szymanski was recognised as an exceptional manager and leader. A special thank you was extended to QCC coordinators in government ministries and agencies who, in spite of having to deal with their own heavy workloads, have always, in partnership with QCC, delivered these service recognition programs across the province. 4. Financial Reports Auditor s Report Alanna Sleep Alanna Sleep, Crawford Smith & Swallow, QCC Auditor presented the 2007/08 audited statements, which were included in the QCC annual report. In closing, Alanna asked the members if they had any comments or concerns. Member Alma Gildea moved for acceptance of the Auditor s report, seconded by member Glen Thompson Motion carried. 5. Election of 2008/2009 Board of Directors: * Nomination Committee Report; * Election Sybil Wilkinson Sybil Wilkinson, chair of the Nominating Committee, presented the recommended slate of candidates for the fiscal year. Two new Board Members, Jack Mc Fadden, retired, formerly with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Harry Yesayan, retired, formerly with Ministry of Revenue, were proposed by the Committee. New President s Remarks Murray Chitra Murray accepted the Presidency of the QCC and thanked all for their confidence and support. Murray was pleased to note that all former executives from last year had accepted another term on the Board and that Vic Pakalnis had agreed to move up to the position as Vice-President. Murray also welcomed Jack Mc Fadden and Harry Yesayan to the QCC Board of Directors. The QCC continues to have representation across the province. Murray then spoke of the long-standing commitment and dedication of Sylvia Davis, commencing her 20 th year on the Board, Whipple Steinkrauss, commencing her 18 th year on the Board and also to Sybil Wilkinson who has more than 17 years on the Board. Murray emphasized that the primary mission of QCC is to ensure the appropriate recognition of active long service provincial public servants, and keep its members fully informed. He outlined the following as activities that QCC had discussed at its Planning Day in February of Key topic of discussion was how to best use the information gained from the membership survey. As the QCC membership expands and a growing percentage have access to the Internet, the QCC hopes to enhance its website and partner/stakeholder links to become a useful resource to our members. 10 Section B, Page 6 A major priority will be given to enhancing a number of the current insurance plans offered by Johnson Inc. QCC will be continuing our partnership with Provincial Interministerial Council (PIC) to bring more regional recognition and informational events to our membership in the fall. QCC will continue to manage its money wisely and will also look for new services of value to our members. 7. Motions from the floor - Vic Pakalnis The QCC Board responded to a number of questions from the audience. 8. Presentation to outgoing President Sybil Wilkinson thanked Gail on behalf of the QCC for the past two years of her term as QCC president. Sybil then presented Gail Ure with a figurine and a donation to the Salvation Army, Adult Day Care Program. 9. Presentation to Federated Health Murray congratulated the Federated Health Campaign on reaching their quarter century milestone and presented John Russell, Executive Director, Federated Health Campaign with a plaque celebrating this milestone and a donation to the campaign. 10. Pension Update - Peter Shena - OPB Bob Breens - OPTrust Bob Breens - OPTrust: Bob presented an overview on the status of the OPTrust plan for Details relevant to Bob Breens remarks are available in the OPTrust 2007 Annual Report. Peter Shena - Ontario Pension Board: Peter presented an overview on the status of the OPB plan for Details relevant to Peter Shena s remarks will be available in the OPB 2007 Annual Report. OPB and the OPTrust representatives responded to a number of questions from the audience. Murray thanked both Peter and Bob for attending the AGM and bringing the Page 6 of 7

11 Section B, Page 7 members the latest pension news. Murray also reminded all attendees that the CPP Integration sessions were to be held after the AGM in separate rooms and that all were welcome to attend. 11. Benefits Update - Janette Jozefacki, Benefits Policy Tom Rouse, Great West Life Senior Benefits Consultant Janette Jozefacki thanked the Board for inviting her to the meeting. She advised that the Retiree Benefit Plan was formalised in 1974 by an order-in-council and that all retiree benefits except life insurance, are the same as the OPSEU benefit plan. Job classification has no impact. Janette announced that the Drug Card which was distributed late last year has proved to be very popular. Janette then introduced Tom Rouse from Great West Life. Tom Rouse encouraged all members to continue to use their drug cards. Tom commented that during the period of Jan 07 to May 07 both OPSEU and OPB combined had 777,000 prescriptions filled at an average drug cost of $7.00 per prescription. The Benefits Policy representatives responded to a number of questions from the audience. Closing Remarks: - Murray Chitra In his closing comments Murray thanked Janette Jozefacki (MGS), and Tom Rouse (GWL), for taking time off their busy schedules to speak to the membership present. He also thanked Tom Rouse for their generous donation of two door prizes. At adjournment he thanked QCC partners Johnson Inc., Senior Tours, Relocation Services, Whitby Toyota and Superior Tire for their generous door prizes. 12. Other Business - Draw for door prizes A number of door prizes were presented to members following a draw. 13. Adjourn: Motion for adjournment: moved by Don Sangster, seconded by Alfred Beese.
