She then keenly demonstrates how discrimination against African Americans ensued well beyond the civil rights era by examining laws, policies, economic factors, educational disparities, labor issues, and other forms of both individual and institutional racism. Invisible Enemy should have a disclaimer on the cover, perhaps a warning from the Surgeon General: "This book can be hazardous to your health." I say this because reading

6 it raised my blood pressure. The author provides her readers with ample evidence of overt and hidden acts of racism and injustices that have been committed against people of color for decades, from the environmental justice struggles of black communities to help others understand that NIMBY politics (Not In My Back Yard) often had PIBBY consequences (Place In Black Back Yards), to an act committed by opponents of affirmative action in 1995, when 15 black students at UC Berkeley received anonymous fliers reading "When I see you in class it bugs the hell out of me because you're taking the seat of someone qualified" (119).
