4 Chairman of Felcra Training Consultancy and delegates to ANGKASA and ACO. ASEAN co-operative involve in various economic and business activities, including agriculture, banking, credit, housing, transportation, healthcare and many others. These indeed provide opportunities for community income generation through employments and businesses as well as reducing the cost of consumption and trade for members, such activities create the cooperative concept of doing business which influence various government in the region to adopt co-operative as the important vehicles in the development agenda and socioeconomic development. ASEAN co-operative values of honesty, integrity and trustworthiness will be translated into principles that emphasize on the distinct 4

5 identity and the way of doing co-operative businesses which should stand out as Cooperative Community Business Model. ASEAN Co-operative Organisation (ACO) was set up to lead and improve the strategic relations between cooperative movements in ASEAN countries. These strategies will help in the implementation of a wide range of activities that benefit all cooperative. I am glad to welcome Republic of Fiji as member of ACO. The cooperation of ACO and The government of Republic of Fiji will assist cooperatives in the aspect of social and economic activities. Together we will share experience and knowledge to develop cooperative and to improve standard of living and social welfare of the individual members especially in the rural area. The cooperation of ACO and The government of Republic of Fiji will enhance and promote 5

6 the trade corporation between both parties including training and refreshing courses in both countries and also organizing seminars, conferences and exchange of expertise among ASEAN co-operatives. In this borderless world, co-operatives in ASEAN countries need to face the challenges, especially in the cooperative business knowledge, efficiently and effectively. ACO play an important role such as advisor and Coordinator to co-operatives in ASEAN region. ACO set up to lead and improve strategic relations among the cooperative movement in ASEAN countries as well as implement a wide range of activities that can benefit all parties especially cooperative. Malaysian National Co-operative Movement (ANGKASA) has played the role as the apex of co-operatives for the Malaysian co-operative movement. 6

7 ANGKASA is taking proactive measures in line with the National Cooperative Policy and Putrajaya Declaration in transforming the cooperative movement through projects with high economic impact. The National Co-operative Policy is based on 5 strategic thrusts which are: 1. Encourage co-ops involvements in high value economic sectors. 2. Strengthen the capacity and capability of coops. 3. Create and enhance the capability of co-op human resources. 4. Increase the confidence of the people in the co-op movement. 5. Strengthen the co-operatives through effective supervision and enforcement. ANGKASA as a member of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), will play the host of ICA Global Conference & General Assembly 2017 in November, which will be held at Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa. I sincerely welcome everybody to participate in this 7

8 event. In conjunction with this event, ANGKASA also highlighting the 100 Champion Products through MACCOPs 2017 which will be held from 14 th November to 17 th November Last but not least, I sincerely hope that this cooperation between ACO, ANGKASA and The Government of Republic of Fiji will bring huge benefits to co-operative members in ASEAN countries.
