5 Call 2: Fight against crime and Terrorism 1/2 June 2014: the European Council will set the strategic guidelines for the next phase for the area of freedom, security and justice. Legislation and concrete cooperation now provide common tools to better protect European societies and economies from serious and organised crime. Increased cooperation on law enforcement has proved essential for responding to common threats like trafficking in human beings, terrorism, cybercrime and corruption.

7 Call 3: Border Security and External Security 1/2 DG HOME Flow of people - research will support the exploitation of the potential given by the European Border Surveillance System (EUROSUR) and promote an enhanced use of new technology for border checks in relation to the SMART BORDERS legislative initiative DG TAXUD Flow of goods - research will address, in the context of the EU s customs policy, supply chain security trying to strike the right balance with trade facilitation

8 Call 3: Border Security and External Security 2/2 European External Action Service - Support the EU External Security Policies in civilian tasks, from civil protection to humanitarian relief, border management or peace-keeping and postcrisis stabilisation, including conflict prevention, peace-building and mediation. This will require research on conflict resolution and restoration of peace and justice, early identification of factors leading to conflict and on the impact of restorative justice processes.
