Why Spiral Dynamics? When I got there (South-Africa) I first thought it was a civil rights issue, that apartheid was the problem and it was simply love each other and care for each other and all the difficulties will suddenly dissolve. I learnt quickly that's not at all what the problem was. There were simply people at different levels of psychological development.(...) But these are not characteristics of Europe or Africa, these are systems in people. And so my contribution over 63 trips was to introduce into that society in education, in law enforcement, in medicine, certainly in business in the clerical classes and even with the Springbok rugby team, a way to see differences out of the skin colour. Dr. Don Beck ( #transcript
Short Overview
The second week in Cairo Day Methods 1 Introduction, Fever curve, Warm Up 2 Refreshing Spiral Dynamics 3 Preperation for Assesment Day 4 Assessment of EDA (Egyptian Democatic Academy) 5 Out of Cairo 1 Day in the Desert 6 Analysing and Developing intervention possibilities 7 Intervention Day at the EDA Headquater 8 Reflection and Closing Round
EDA case study Two main objectives: Asking employees in the organization to identify possible road blocks and development potential What is the common/uncommon narrativ of the organization? Listen with 4 Ears...
Assessment of EDA through the 4 Quadrant Model I The individual role of EDA within Egypts Civil Society It Work and outputs of EDA 4 Ears to listen with We The broader cultural context to which EDA is bound Its Systems and Institutions embedding EDA
Voices within EDA When I see a positive outcome, that makes me feel good. Our aim is a candidate that understands and performs good governance. We were a small committed group of friends and activist that started EDA. That was the reason that the old regime was not able to brake us. Its not about convincing people, its about letting them know what they following.
Identified Challenges 1. How to grow efficiently and sustainably? 2. How to put the knowledge, theory and methods gained through EDA`s trainings into practise and how to measure the outcome? 3. How to find local funding to become independent of international financial support?
Intervention Day Constellation work to simulate the worst case scenario: EDA is running out of funds and nobody understands the important task of political capacity building within Egypt
Objectives for intervention Challenge life conditions in order for a new mindset to emerge Support the change process through a generative dialogue Engage the EDA Team to come up with new solutions
Solutions Selling human resource and development trainings for governmental and business organizations to finance the civil society work Presenting EDA as a key institution within Egypt that works in order to achieve long term stability of the sociopolitical system for prosperity and economic growth through a democratic society
Drafting (business) plan: 1. Define clear short term goals. 2. Providing donors with transparent reports of the current work achievements. 3. Evaluating finished projects to adjust due to the outcome future project planning Focusing on a social business strategy (Printer Project f. ex.) and Media as a key tool and resource
Surprise for us as consultants Presentation of Spiral Dynamics because of EDAs interest in the model EDA Team could identify the conflicting traditional, modern and postmodern values within their work and were very grateful Asked to stay in contact and to send a paper for there board meeting
Thank You for Listening
