Critics claim that Americans today are more alienated from politics and have lost confidence in government. Assess the validity of this statement by examining and providing specific examples of the following behaviors. Interest group behavior Citizen participation behavior Political party behavior Congressional behavior Media behavior Thesis: American today are more alienated from politics and have lost confidence in the government because they distrust them, they lie and break promises, and are crooks. I feel like this would be used to help show citizen participation behavior and media behavior. The way this is depicted it was obviously in a newspaper therefore the media comes into play. The media representation of a father and sons conversation about organized crime and the statement government or private sector just helps prove that the people In today's society do not trust the government very much. I feel like the rider would use it in that way. They could use this to help show how the government is a bunch of crooks.
This article is a headline from a governor himself saying that the people don't trust the government to do much of anything. I feel as if it would be used to show congressional behavior and possibly political party behavior. I see potentials they would use e headline itself as direct evidence to prove the alienation. When he states "that there now exists an incredible level of mistrust on anything massive the government does" it would be a very good fact to help prove congressional behavior and congressional belief in the fact that they feel a lack. Trust from the people. Since Rubio is a republican one could also potentially use it to show that the Republican Political party believes that there is not must trust in the government. This helps further the case that the government isn't trusted.
For this document I expect the person reading it to notice the rise in unemployment and disapproval rate rise. I expect them to use this as a reason people lack confidence in the government. I expect them to remember promises made by Obama that are proven to be broken her in this graph. They can use it for media behavior, interest group behavior, and citizen participation behavior. They could use this to show how broken promises helped the disapproval rating rise in conjunction with unemployment.
The article speaks for itself. They could use this to help prove that the public trust in government is horribly low and the reason why. Promises of things that were broken and see now a serious problem in this country. Such as deep recession, high unemployment, and a polarized congress. This document is a very easy one to help further the case of the DBQ. This political cartoon I presume would be used to show that there is a distrust in the government because of the lies being told between their teeth. This cartoon portrays a politician lying he wants to be more honest and s woman telling him he already broke his resolution. This could be used and clumped under media and citizen behavior In a paragraph dealing with politicians and their lies.
I foresee this graph being used to help prove the fact that people have begun alienating themselves from politics due to a lack in trust in the government. I expect them to talk about the lack of voter turnout in midterm elections because they've lost confidence and feel like it's not worth it. They can talk about how voting for presidential elections is still not even at past 61.6 % and try to tie it into how it may be wrong but people feel that the government isn't even worth voting for because it's so corrupt. They also might say something about how confidence raised after 9/11 but then fell as promises were broken IE 2012 election. From 2008 to 2012 the distrust in Obama rose but it was better than the opponent according to 58% of the country.
