Exchange of views with BBC and Deutsche Welle on the situation of journalists reporting on Iran The Coordinators: heard the representatives of BBC and Deutsche Welle report about the situation of journalists reporting on Iran, and the systematic attempts of the Iranian authorities to restrict independent journalism and its dissemination in Iran, including by intimidating journalists and their relatives; decided to take the following action: o to seek close cooperation with the AFET and LIBE Committees as well as the European Parliament's delegation for relations with Iran (D-IR) o to provide input to the forthcoming AFET mission to Iran, taking into account also the expected reply by the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to the recent letter by the CULT Chair outlining the Committee s concerns regarding the persecution of journalists reporting on Iran; o to aim for an EP resolution on this issue, to be prepared together with AFET and LIBE. 2. 18 Follow-up on previous Coordinators decisions Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council on the import of cultural goods COM(2017)0375 and Annex- 2017/0158(COD) SWD(2017)0262, SWD(2017)0263 The Coordinators: heard the Chair report about the decision of the Conference of Presidents to attribute co-responsibility for this legislative report to INTA and IMCO (Rule 55 of the Rules of Procedure), with CULT continuing to be associated under Rule Chair s announcements The Coordinators: heard the Chair announce her unavailability for the forthcoming Trilogues on the European Youth Orchestra, and decided to follow her suggestion to entrust Ms Silvia COSTA, CULT rapporteur for this dossier, with the role of Chair for the trilogues; heard the Chair communicate LIBE s decision to no longer pursue their own-initiative report on Tackling illegal content online and go for an Oral Question with a Motion for a Resolution instead, and the return of 0.5 points to the S&D group, which had been given rapporteurship for a CULT opinion; decided to seek involvement in the planned Oral Question and the Motion for a Resolution; heard the Chair announce that, due to the report on the manipulation of sports competitions currently being blocked in the Council and being subject to the consent procedure, CULT can take no further action for the time being; decided to urge the Bulgarian Presidency to intervene in order to unblock this dossier; heard the Chair remind Members of the forthcoming visit of the CULT Committee to the House of European History on 31 January 2018 starting at 15:00, followed by an exchange of views with representatives of the House and its Academic Committee on the EP premises from 17:00 to 18:30; heard the Chair announce the revised starting time of Committee meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon as of January 2018, now beginning at 14:30 instead of 15:00; heard the Chair report that three documents had recently been adopted by the European Commission and fall within the competences of CULT, namely a Council Recommendation on Key Competences for Lifelong Learning, a Digital Education Action Plan as well as a Council Recommendation on Common values, inclusive education and the European dimension of teaching ; decided to abstain from re-prioritising CULT s work agenda, but to take note of these documents in the ongoing CULT own-initiative report Modernisation of Education in the EU. Priorities for ECA Work Programme 2019 The Coordinators decided to suggest the following four topics for the 2019 work programme of the European Court of Auditors: o Euronews and Euranet Plus (Objective: To assess (a) the achievement of their main objectives of providing independent and easy-to-access information to a global audience from a pan-european perspective, and (b) the effectiveness of the use of EU funds for Euronews and Euranet Plus to support that objective in particular.) o Erasmus+ (Objective: To assess the effectiveness of the Erasmus+ Master Loan Guarantee Facility.) o Creative Europe (Objective: To assess the effectiveness of the Financial Guarantee Facility for the Cultural and Creative Sector.) o European Schools (Objective: To assess the effectiveness of the management of the European Schools.) 5. CULT Mission to Valletta, Malta The Coordinators approved the preliminary draft programme and the participants list for the upcoming CULT mission to Valletta, Malta, from February EC High-Level Expert Group on Fake News - CULT Involvement The Coordinators decided to seek observer status for CULT both in the European Commission s expert group on Fake News and that on Media Literacy, and entrusted the Chair to draft a letter to that end to Commissioner Gabriel. 7.
