Vienna has also been in or among the lead of initiatives to protect the principle of local government and subsidiarity, e.g. in the public transport sector. Vienna has urged for the development of a strong urban agenda in all EU-policies, as cities are the focal points not only for innovation and growth, but also to tackle the social consequences of the financial crisis. All of this has led to a stronger focus on Europe within the local administration of the City of Vienna. The aim of this half-day event, taking place at a time where there should be more clarity on the future of the EU-budget in general and cohesion policy more specifically, is to give actors from the city administration, the city's public enterprises and agencies as the Vienna Business Agency an overview on prospects for EU-funded activities and on the future developments on European level relevant for cities. Presentations from different EU-funded projects and EU-programmes based in Vienna will round up the debate.
