4 SYSTEM OF PROTECTION AGAINST NATURAL AND OTHER DISASTERS The system is intended to protect people, animals, cultural heritage and the environment from natural and other disasters.

5 TASKS OF THE SYSTEM Monitoring and researching hazards Establishing and maintaining all forms of preparedness Responding to disasters Ensuring recovery (basic living conditions) Drafting and supervising the implementation of legislation Providing assistance to other countries

36 Exercise Forest fires 2004 Important exercise: Exercise Forest fires in France as a consequence of catastrophic forest fires in the Mediterranean countries - Important for Slovenia from operational and logistical point of view (over 1000 km) and in cooperation with Italy. - Important from political point of view, in the sense of joining EU

40 European Commission (2) The Administration is involved in activities related to: Slovenian participation in NEDIES Project, EC/JRC EU workshops, seminars, courses, etc. Community mechanism - Slovenia signed Memorandum of Understanding in the field of civil protection in November 2002
