3 ABOUT IN INDONESIA, LIPPO VILLAGE/KARAWACI ABOUT INDONESIA Indonesia is officially known as the Republic of Indonesia, located in Asian continent, comprises of approximately 17,5 islands. It has 33 provinces with a population of 238 million people; Bahasa Indonesia is the national language, with more than 2 ethnics and over 7 native languages across its 33 provinces, from Sabang to Merauke (East to West). Indonesia is an archipelago in Southeast Asia consisting of 17, islands (6, inhabited) and straddling the equator. The largest islands are Sumatra, Java (the most populous), Bali, Kalimantan (Indonesia s part of Borneo), Sulawesi (Celebes), the Nusa Tenggara islands, the Moluccas Islands, and Irian Jaya (also called West Papua), the western part of New Guinea. Its neighbor to the north is Malaysia and to the east is Papua New Guinea. Indonesia, part of the ring of fire, has the largest number of active volcanoes in the world. Earthquakes are frequent. Wallace s line, a zoological demarcation between Asian and Australian flora and fauna, divides Indonesia. 1 EXCHANGE & STUDY ABROAD GUIDE ABOUT LIPPO VILLAGE Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia, serves as the country s administrative, political, economic, and cultural center. With over 1 million people lives across its five administrative areas, it is the most populous city in Indonesia. Jakarta represents the richness of Indonesian culture and heritage. Although Bahasa Indonesia is the national language of Indonesia, there are over 7 indigenous languages. Most Indonesians speak their indigenous language as their mother tongue and Bahasa Indonesia for school and careers, making most Indonesians bilingual. Bahasa Indonesia is strikingly similar to Bahasa Malay, which is no surprise since Bahasa Indonesia is a variant of Malay developed in the 192s by nationalists and adopted as the official language of Indonesia after independence. The UPH Global Campus is located in Lippo Village, which is a very unique city on the outskirts of Jakarta. It is nicknamed The Incomparable City, since there is no other place like Lippo Village in Indonesia. The area boasts a clean environment, world standard planning, infrastructure, and town management. There is a highway adjacent to the city as well as high quality in-town buses within Lippo Village. Founded in 1993, today Lippo Village is home to over 5, residents with far more coming into the area each day for education and employment. Over 12, students are educated in the numerous schools from pre-k to tertiary level, making the city a very vibrant educational hub for young people. Lippo Village is very well known to be a safe and secure area for the entire family. The city has very low crime rates as a result of excellent security making it much less worrisome for its residents. Almost all the housing in Lippo Village is in gates housing estates, with over 6 of these estates (Taman in Bahasa Indonesia). 4 ACCOMODATION There are various options of temporary and long term accommodations available depending on your preferences and budget. Since UPH on-campus accommodation (MYC Dormitory) is only available for first year/full time students, exchange/study abroad students may opt for off-campus accommodation. There are many off-campus accommodation available that are close to campus. We provide assistance for exchange/study abroad students to find a suitable place according to their needs. LONG TERM ACCOMMODATION Before choosing your long term accommodation, you may want to consider the proximity, your preferences and budget. Homestay / Boarding House (Kost - in Indonesian) There are a great range of boarding houses (kost) / homestay in the neighborhood that offer different facilities at a various price. In general, the common facilities of a boarding house / homestay are furnished rooms with bed, desk, chair, air-conditioner, wardrobe, inside-room-bathroom (other boarding houses might have shared bathroom), and other services such as Wi-Fi internet access, laundry service, and drinking water. General Cleaning Service sometimes is also included. Some restrictions may be applied in several boarding houses / homestay such as curfew, no pets allowed and no opposite gender guests allowed in the room. Rent payment is usually on a monthly basis, ranging between IDR 1,5,.- to IDR 5,,.- depending on the house location and facilities. Some boarding houses are extending their service and facilities and providing gym area, swimming pool, access card to enter, 24/7 security with fingerprint access, parking lot, dining / common area with comfortable sofa, big screen TV and mini cafe. Temporary Accommodation This type of accommodation suits perfectly for short term visitors or for those who are still looking for a permanent place to stay in. Tangerang, Indonesia PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION The various types of transport available in Lippo Village/Karawaci: Bicycles Using a bicycle is a safe and economical form of transport within Lippo Karawaci. There are designated bike lanes to cycle in, which makes it a lot safer. The large trees planted in the area also provide enough shade for cyclists, giving much needed relief from the tropical sun. Lippo Shuttle Bus Internal Karawaci These are medium-size bus that serves Lippo Village area every 3 minutes. Main Bus Terminal is located behind Supermal Karawaci. These are a very economical and safe way to get around Lippo Village township. 6 Lippo Shuttle Bus External to Jakarta Lippo also has shuttle buses that goes into Jakarta on a regular basis. The bus will stop at various locations in Jakarta. The bus terminal is located at the back of the Lippo Supermal and is a safe and convenient way to travel to Jakarta. Angkot An angkot is a small van/mini bus that serves certain routes on smaller main roads. Its seating fits for 9-12 people, depending on the type. Fares depend on the distance, but are usually Rp 3, to 4, per trip. The same procedure for as the Lippo Bus works for an angkot too. Angkot is the least preferred mode of transportation for someone new to Indonesia. Taxi Taxis are available 24/7 and reservation can be made through a phone call or flag one by the road. Taxi fares are generally more expensive compared to UBER. Ojek (Motorcycle Taxis) An Ojek is a motorcyclist that offers rides to any destinations as instructed. They are a popular mode of transport in Lippo Karawaci as well as Jakarta, although we suggest you only use the ones within Lippo. You will find a number of ojeks located outside each Taman and outside the Supermal. Before getting on you should negotiate the fare based on your destination distance. All of the ojeks that work in Lippo are registered with Lippo security to ensure everyone s safety and a familiarity for those using ojeks. You can get anything purchased and delivered instantly with Go-Jek. Unlike an ojek where you have to bargain for the price, Go-Jek fare is generated by the system. The application is available for download on the Apple app store or Google play. Uber Mobile Application Uber app connects you with a reliable ride in minutes, from a low cost to premium. Uber has range of private cars ready to pick you up at Jakarta and Tangerang area. It uses your phone s GPS to detect your location and connects you with the nearest available driver. Payment is automatically charged to your credit card through the app and fares are usually cheaper than a regular taxi. NOTE: This is only an estimated calculation made for publication in 216. *prices above are only estimation and depend on student s lifestyle. 1 Deposit will be refunded at the end of your stay if no outstanding rent is due and have been given period of notice, and no damage is caused to the property. 2 MYC rent is per one semester (3 months) basis, and no deposit required for exchange student. 3 Rent for apartment, condominium and townhouse are usually based on 12-months lease, however some tenants allow negotiation for 3 or 6 months lease. 4 Wi-Fi or broadband internets are sometimes included in the rent (depends on the facility). 8 INDONESIAN CULTURE CLIMATE AND TIME ZONES The culture of Indonesia has been shaped by long interaction between original indigenous customs and multiple foreign influences. Indonesia is centrally-located along ancient trading routes between the Far East, South Asia and the Middle East, resulting in many cultural practices being strongly influenced by a multitude of religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Islam and Christianity, all strong in the major trading cities. The result is a complex cultural mixture very different from the original indigenous cultures. CONSERVATIVE Indonesian in general is more conservative, but people who are in modern city are less conservative than the people who live in suburbs area. Manners and etiquette are very important to Indonesian. Indonesian people often hesitate or afraid to speak up their minds / thoughts, and often avoid direct confrontation. RUBBER TIME To some people, showing up late to meetings or school is quite common and considered normal in everyday life. Some Indonesian have the tendencies to be more laid back and take life easier and lack of discipline. But many times, the main cause is really the bad traffic in Jakarta. So for normal meetings in Jakarta, people do spare 3 minutes to 1 hour lateness for the person they made appointment with. Split by the equator, Indonesia has an almost entirely tropical climate, with the coastal plains averaging 28 C, the inland and mountain areas averaging 26 C, and the higher mountain regions, 23 C. The area's relative humidity is quite high, and ranges between 7 and 9 percent. WEATHER AND SEASON Indonesia has two seasons, wet and dry, with warm tropical temperatures averaging 28 C during the day, throughout the year. In most regions, the dry season spans from May to September, with the rains falling from October to April. TIME ZONES Indonesia is divided into three time zones. Western Indonesian Time or Waktu Indonesia Barat (WIB) is UTC + 7 hours Central Indonesian Time or Waktu Indonesia Tengah (WITA) is UTC + 8 hours Eastern Indonesian Time or Waktu Indonesia Timur (WIT) is UTC + 9 Indonesia does not use daylight saving time. 9 UPH FACILITIES EXCHANGE / STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAM Student Exchange Program (SEP) offers student the opportunity to study overseas at Partner University for up to two semesters and receive tuition waiver at Partner University. UPH is a private university situated in the exciting Lippo Village neighborhood populated with over 1.5 million people. Meet people around the world and get a chance to travel to South East Asia region, enrich your knowledge and experience the multicultural environment. We are open to receive inbound student from Partner University through Exchange Program, or from non-partner through Study Abroad program. To check UPH Partner University List, please refer to the International Office website. STUDY ABROAD PROGRAM Grand Chapel MYC Residence Food Junction Study Abroad Program (SAP) is a non-degree program which is not only limited to UPH Partners and available for any international students from University that does not have partnership agreement with us but wants to study in UPH. Regular tuition fee applies for Study Abroad program, and student will only obtain a transcript to allow credit transfer to their home university. The required documents and the application process are the same with exchange program. Standard tuition fee will be applied for study abroad student. 10 EXCHANGE / STUDY ABROAD VISA APPLICATION PROCEDURE REQUIREMENT All inbound exchange student shall comply with the university procedure and fulfill the following requirement before applying: 1. Must complete 1 year in the home university. 2. If English is not your primary language, student must submit TOEFL / IELTS with minimum score of 55 (for TOEFL PBT) or 6. (average band for IELTS). 3. Submit Academic Records (or Transcript) PROGRAM DETAILS Our academic year is consist with 3 semesters (Odd, Even, and Accelerated semester). Odd semester (semester 1) starts from August to November, Even semester (semester 2) starts from January to April, and Accelerated semester (semester 3) starts from April to August. One semester (term) length is 14 weeks with 2 weeks break at the end of each semester, except during Christmas break student will have a full 4 weeks holiday. International students may enroll up 2 semesters as a full-time "non-degree" student. EXCHANGE Steps Process Activities 1 Nomination International Student applying for exchange program must be nominated by the Home University International Office. Exchange program is based on agreement between two institutions, so make sure your Home Institution does have an exchange agreement with us. Otherwise, you will have to apply as study abroad student (regular tuition fee will apply). Check list of UPH Partners here. If these dates are conflicted with your academic calendar, please kindly contact us. 3 Review & Selecting Courses 4 Acceptance 5 Student Visa Application Upon receiving your nomination and application, we will request the course list and description to the faculty you are applying. (NOTE: Class schedule may not be ready by then, and courses provided may be subject to change according to the availability. Student is recommended to select extra courses more than required, for back-up/alternative purpose) The earliest screening process will begin around 3-4 months before Arrival Date. Your application will be reviewed at the related Faculty (takes about 5 working days). The decision of acceptance is based on your academic performance/records. If your application is accepted, the Faculty will issue the Acceptance Letter and you will be notified by International Office via with your Acceptance Letter attached. Starting January 216, all international students (with foreign nationality) must enter Indonesia with Study Permit and Student Visa (VITAS - Visa Ijin Tinggal Terbatas). Socio Culture Visa is NO longer allowed to be used for study. 11 6 Payment for Student Visa 7 Collect Visa After submitting all of the required documents above, student must pay the student visa handling fee. For your information, the initial process for Student Visa (VITAS) will have to be done prior to arrival in Indonesia (details for visa process and procedure will be explained further in the Student Visa and Permit section) with the assistance of Third Party Agent recommended by UPH. Visa and permit handling fee / agent service fee (in Indonesia) needs to be paid in advance via bank transfer from local bank in your country.the process for getting the student visa (VITAS) may take from 6 weeks up to 12 weeks, therefore we advise you to settle the visa payment by one week after your acceptance. The amount and payment details will be notified via . IMPORTANT: Your visa will only be processed after your payments been verified. Student must submit the bank s receipt / proof of payment (via ) for verification purpose. After going through a long process at the Ministry of Higher Education (Study Permit), BPKLN approval and the Immigration, a telex (visa approval) will be issued and we will send you the copy telex via . We suggest that student contact the Embassy directly to make appointment or discuss the procedure for collecting the visa (VITAS). 11 Visit the Immigration Office 12 KITAS Card Issuance Within those 2 weeks, student will be notified to visit the Immigration Office in Tangerang for having your photograph and fingerprint taken. ADDRESS OF IMMIGRATION OFFICE IN TANGERANG: Jl. Taman Makam Pahlawan Taruna No.1, Kec. Tangerang, Kota Tangerang, Banten Phone: A few days after your visit to the Immigration, your KITAS Card and MERP will be issued and then passport will be returned. MERP is an official stamp given on your passport stated as Limited Stay & Re-Entry. With MERP stamp on passport, student may travel overseas back and forth, from and to Indonesia without problem / additional charges. Student is responsible to keep the KITAS card safe at all times, it is considered as your local ID card during your stay in Indonesia, so we recommend you to make a photocopy of it and keep it on your wallet/purse. IMPORTANT: Please take note to return your KITAS Card to International Office upon your departure when you set up for EPO (Exit Permit Only). Student must bring the copy telex and passport, then fill up a form and pay the amount of fee* for collecting the visa. The collection process takes about 2 to 3 working days depending on the embassy. STUDY ABROAD 8 Schedule Your Arrival (Ticket Booking) IMPORTANT: the collection fee varies at each embassy Upon receiving VITAS on your passport, student may start scheduling on your arrival in Indonesia and begin to book flight ticket. Make sure you arrive during the expected date of arrival or before the orientation. NOTE: VITAS will be converted to KITAS Card (Kartu Ijin Tinggal Terbatas). Conversion process and MERP (Multiple Exit Re-Entry Permit) is applicable upon arrival and visit the Immigration. 9 Courses Confirmation To guarantee your seats in the classes of your chosen subjects, student is required to submit the Course Registration Form filled with the pre-approved courses by your home university. 1 Arrival in Jakarta UPH International Office provides assistance for international students who require an airport pick-up. Pick-up service is available only on weekdays and within our office hour (7am to 4pm). To book pick-up service, student must submit the Airport Pick-Up Registration Form to UPH International Office via with the round-trip flight ticket attached. We will only accommodate your request, if the form is submitted at least 7 (seven) days prior arrival. Please note that your first point of entry must be in Jakarta. IMPORTANT: Within 3 days upon arrival in Indonesia, student must submit the passport to the Immigration through UPH International Office. The immigration will hold your passport for about 2 weeks in order to process your KITAS card (Kartu Ijin Tinggal Terbatas) and MERP (Multiple Entry Exit Re-Entry Permit). 1 Study Abroad Application 2 Application Review & Courses Discussion 3 Acceptance 4 Tuition Fee Payment Complete the Application Form for Inbound Program and submit the following documents to UPH International Office (IO) via at the earliest before the Application Deadline: Copy of Official Academic Transcript / Academic Records Scanned Passport of front page ID in COLOR (with minimum passport validity of 18 months) Copy of IELTS / TOEFL result (if English is not your primary language) Recent Photograph (Photo ID) Upon receiving your application, we will request the course list and description to the related faculty. (NOTE: If the class schedule is not ready by then, student should select courses from the list of estimated courses provided. These courses are subject to change. Student is recommended to select extra courses more than required, for back-up/alternative purpose) Student must select courses and fill out the Course Registration Form. The selected courses may still be changed / revised later. The earliest screening process will begin around 3-4 months before Arrival Date. Your application will be reviewed at the related Faculty (takes around 6 working days). The decision of acceptance is based on your academic performance/records. If your application is accepted, the Faculty will issue the Acceptance Letter. The Acceptance Letter will be sent to student via . The admission will issue an Offering Letter that includes the tuition fee amount. 12 5 Student Visa Application All international students (with foreign nationality) must have the Study Permit and Student Visa (VITAS/KITAS - Visa Ijin Tinggal Terbatas) to study in Indonesia. Submit the following documents to UPH International Office (via & postmail) at the earliest and student must inform the location of which Indonesian Embassy overseas preferable for collecting the visa: Application Form for Student Visa and Permit* Recent Photograph with RED background with size of: 3cm x 4cm (6 pieces) 4cm x 6cm (6 pieces) 6cm x 9cm (soft-copy) Medical Statement (issued by local doctor/hospital) Statement Letter* Financial Statement* 1 Arrival in Jakarta UPH International Office provides assistance for international students who require an airport pick-up. Pick-up service is available only on weekdays and within our office hour (7am to 4pm). To book pick-up service, student must submit the Airport Pick-Up Registration Form to UPH International Office via with the round-trip flight ticket attached. We will only accommodate your request, if the form is submitted at least 7 (seven) days prior arrival. Please note that your first point of entry must be in Jakarta. IMPORTANT: Within 3 days upon arrival in Indonesia, student must submit the passport to the Immigration through UPH International Office. The immigration will hold your passport for about 2 weeks in order to process your KITAS card (Kartu Ijin Tinggal Terbatas) and MERP (Multiple Entry Exit Re-Entry Permit). 6 Payment for Student Visa After submitting all of the required documents above, student must pay the student visa handling fee. For your information, the initial process for Student Visa (VITAS) will have to be done prior to arrival in Indonesia (details for visa process and procedure will be explained further in the Student Visa and Permit section) with the assistance of Third Party Agent recommended by UPH. Visa and permit handling fee / agent service fee (in Indonesia) needs to be paid in advance via bank transfer from local bank in your country.the process for getting the student visa (VITAS) may take from 6 weeks up to 12 weeks, therefore we advise you to settle the visa payment by one week after your acceptance. The amount and payment details will be notified via Visit the Immigration Office Within those 2 weeks, student will be notified to visit the Immigration Office in Tangerang for having your photograph and fingerprint taken. ADDRESS OF IMMIGRATION OFFICE IN TANGERANG: Jl. Taman Makam Pahlawan Taruna No.1, Kec. Tangerang, Kota Tangerang, Banten Phone: A few days after your visit to the Immigration, your KITAS Card and MERP will be issued and then passport will be returned. MERP is an official stamp given on your passport stated as Limited Stay & Re-Entry. With MERP stamp on passport, student may travel overseas back and forth, from and to Indonesia without problem / additional charges. IMPORTANT: Your visa will only be processed after your payments been verified. Student must submit the bank s receipt / proof of payment (via ) for verification purpose. After going through a long process at the Ministry of Higher Education (Study Permit), BPKLN approval and the Immigration, a telex (visa approval) will be issued and we will send you the copy telex via KITAS Card Issuance Student is responsible to keep the KITAS card safe at all times, it is considered as your local ID card during your stay in Indonesia, so we recommend you to make a photocopy of it and keep it on your wallet/purse. IMPORTANT: Please take note to return your KITAS Card to International Office upon your departure when you set up for EPO (Exit Permit Only). 7 Collect Visa We suggest that student contact the Embassy directly to make appointment or discuss the procedure for collecting the visa (VITAS). Student must bring the copy telex and passport, then fill up a form and pay the amount of fee* for collecting the visa. The collection process takes about 2 to 3 working days depending on the embassy. IMPORTANT: the collection fee varies at each embassy 8 Schedule Your Arrival (Ticket Booking) Upon receiving VITAS on your passport, student may start scheduling on your arrival in Indonesia and begin to book flight ticket. Make sure you arrive during the expected date of arrival or before the orientation. NOTE: VITAS will be converted to KITAS Card (Kartu Ijin Tinggal Terbatas). Conversion process and MERP (Multiple Exit Re-Entry Permit) is applicable upon arrival and visit the Immigration. 9 Courses Confirmation To guarantee your seats in the classes of your chosen subjects, student is required to submit the Course Registration Form filled with the pre-approved courses by your home university. * The following forms are available for download at international.uph.edu website. 19 EXCHANGE & STUDY ABROAD GUIDE EXCHANGE & STUDY ABROAD GUIDE 2

13 VISA ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Student Visa (VITAS). (code: 316) It is compulsory for foreign students who will are studying at UPH. Application process will initially take place at the Immigration Office in Indonesia and student must travel overseas to collect the visa which requires another fee for collecting it at the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI). VALIDITY: 1 year or 2 years. Renewable for up to maximum 4-5 times. PROCESS DURATION: 3 days up to 6 days PROCESSING FEE: +/- IDR 7,, (include with Study Permit, MERP, and KITAS package fee) COLLECTION FEE: +/- IDR 1,5, (for 1 year visa) or +/- IDR 3,, (for 2 years visa) MERP (Multiple Re-Entry Permit). Re-Entry permit is also mandatory to be processed right after collecting the VITAS and arrive in Indonesia. This process will take place at the Immigration Office in Tangerang. VALIDITY: same as VITAS (1 year or 2 years) depending on the granted visa period. PROCESS DURATION: 3-7 working days KITAS (Limited Stay Permit Identification Card) KITAS is a card for limited single entry stay permit, which is granted to visitors who come to Indonesia with the purpose of study, research, business, sports and social activity, etc. There are two types of KITAS which is used for either work OR study purpose. Study KITAS cannot be used for work and vice versa. KITAS card is processed together with MERP at the Immigration Office in Tangerang. This requires passport, fingerprint, photograph, and short interview during the visit to the Immigration. VALIDITY: 1 year or 2 years (KITAS validity replaces the VITAS expiration date) PROCESS DURATION: 3-7 days Exit Permit Only (EPO). MUST be processed at the end of study / dismissed from faculty / resignation from the University. This requires passport and KITAS to be returned to the Immigration through International Office. Make sure you keep the KITAS card at all times. If lost, then you must go through BAP (Berita Acara Perkara) process which will cost more money and extra time.
