2 INTERNATIONAL DELEGATES: TRAVELLING TO CANADA As an initiative of the United Nations Association in Canada, CANIMUN prides itself in being an exceptional conference for Canadian and International delegates. The opportunities presented through CANIMUN are unique to our partnership with diplomatic officials, stakeholders, and other parties. We invite delegates from all over the world to join us in Canada s capital and be apart of a conference that takes delegates voices outside of simulation and into real-life discussions. We are happy to accommodate and welcome international delegates and are committed to making your travel to Canada as easy as possible. Please note that this document only serves as a reference for international delegates. We would invite you to direct all technical questions to an officer at a Visa Application Center (VAC) or contact them with one of the following ways : *Please note that you must apply for CANIMUN before applying to for a visa. Upon receiving your application we will issue you a letter of application with the CANIMUN event code.* The General Requirements to visit Canada are as follows: A valid passport for at least 6 months, No criminal or immigration related convictions, Show sufficient funds for travelling, accommodation, transportation, etc., A Letter of Invitation will be provided by the CANIMUN team to expedite the visa process (Not applicable in the case of an eta). *All delegates must pay registration in full PRIOR to receiving their letter of invitation.* Medical examination/ reports may be required (to be determined case by case). There are two types of Entry Documents that can be asked for by an Immigration Officer, an eta or a Visa. Find out whether you need an eta or a Visitor Visa: Visa and eta exemptions: Nationals of the United States, Citizen of France residing in and travelling from St. Pierra and Miquelon.

3 Electronic Travel Authorization (eta) Visitor/Tourist Visa Passport holders who were previously exempted from obtaining a Canadian visa now require an eta to enter Canada (this is only limited to if a person enters by air). It is a mandatory requirement for travellers from visa-exempt countries who fly or transit through Canada, It is valid for up to five years until the passport used to apply for the eta expires, and, This allows you to travel to Canada many times, and stay for up to six months (the Border Services Officer has the final say as to how long you can stay). Find out if you need an eta: Procedure: Applying for an eta is a simple online process that will only take a few minutes. Most eta-eligible applicants will get their authorization within minutes of submitting the online form via . This can sometimes take several days to process as the immigration officer may require additional documents. What you will need: A valid passport of a visa-exempt country A valid address A valid credit card (payment cannot be made with a debit card) Cost: $7 (CAD) The CANIMUN team highly encourages all delegates to apply for their eta as soon as they have registered for the conference. A Canadian visiting visa can be applied online or on paper, depending on your convenience. Travellers with passports from visa-required countries and territories need a visitor visa (Temporary Resident Visa) to enter Canada. Visas issued by Canadian authorities have an expiration date and cannot be used beyond its date. All delegates must pay registration in full PRIOR to receiving their invitation letter. Types of visa: Single-entry visa: A single-entry visa allows you to come to Canada only once. After you leave Canada, excluding travel to the United States and St. Pierre and Miquelon, you will need a new visa to travel back to Canada. Multiple-entry visa: A multiple-entry visa allows visitors to come and go from Canada, usually for six months at a time, without having to reapply. You must arrive in Canada on or before the expiry date on your visa. Please see the following page for a list of steps for applying for a Canadian Temporary Resident Visa.

4 APPLYING FOR A TEMPORARY RESIDENT VISA Step 1: How to apply? Delegates who require a visa will need to find the nearest Visa Application Center (VAC) to apply for their visa. This includes either a visa office affiliated with IRCC, a Consulate or an Embassy. VAC s can: Answer questions in local languages and make sure the application is complete, Transmit application documents and passports to the visa office securely, Return passport and decision documents securely, Offer tracking service, Schedule interviews and provide application photographs and photocopies for a fee, Provide access to a computer to apply online, Collect biometrics (fingerprints and photograph). Find your nearest Canadian VAC: offices/vac.asp Step 2: Applying Delegates can choose to apply online or at a Visa Application Center. If a delegate chooses to apply online, he/she will need to create a login account using their online banking login (Sign-In Partner) or a login with the Government of Canada (GCKey). Those wishing to apply will first need to take a survey to determine whether they are eligible to apply for a Canadian visa. If the delegate is eligible, a personal reference code is generated which delegates need in order to apply online. Applicants will need to have access to: Either a scanner or a camera to create electronic copies of your documents or to Upload, A valid credit card and . Step 3: Submitting Documents Applicants will also need to upload all the relevant documents as instructed. This will primarily consist of: Tourist Visa form, Purpose of trip, proof of financial support/accommodation/transport, Medical reports (if need be), Copy of a valid travel document, Document Checklist (IMM5484), And all other documents as instructed. Step 4: Pay Application Fee Online: For applicants who wish to apply online, this can be done with a valid credit card. In person: Fee can be paid in person at the VAC and the receipt is submitted with the application. The visa fee is $100 (CAD) per applicant. If the applicant is a national of a country where biometrics are required, then there is an additional fee of $85 (CAD). Find out if you need to give biometrics: english/visit/biometrics.asp Step 5: Application Process Once the online application has been approved, applicants will be asked to go to their closest VAC to submit their valid travel documents and give their biometrics (if applicable). Delegates can also choose to apply in person at their nearest VAC. In this case, delegates will need to submit all necessary documents, their travel document, and give their biometrics (if applicable) when submitting their application. Step 6: Decision When the decision has been made, applicants are informed. Their travel document is then collected from the VAC where they submitted their application.

5 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Please note: Nationals who require a visa but are lawful permanent residents of the United States with a valid Green Card will require an eta to visit Canada. International students in the United States who are on student visas (eg. F visas) and are nationals of visa-requiring countries will require a visa to visit Canada. Minors (under the age of 18) will need the consent of a parent/legal guardian to enter Canada (a letter from the parent allowing them to travel alone/ or with their school). Applying online can make the process longer if applying from a country where delegates will have to give their biometrics. It is recommended that the biometric fees is paid with the visa fee to avoid delays, if applicable. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) How long is the processing time for a tourist visa? The processing time can vary depending on the delegate s country of residence and nationality. Delegates can call their VAC s or check the status of their application online. It can take from 1-12 weeks. Delegates are advised to apply for their visa as soon as possible. How much does a tourist visa cost? The visa fee is $100 (CAD) per applicant. If the applicant is a national of a country where biometrics are required, then there is an additional fee of $85 (CAD). In case of a visa getting rejected, IRCC or the CANIMUN team is not responsible for a refund. When must the supporting documentation be submitted? If the applicant applies online, the supporting documentation along with the Letter of Invitation is to be uploaded online, when the delegate has submitted their application. If the applicant applies in person, then it is to be submitted with their travel document.
