3 About YSDA Philippines Partenaire YSDA Youth for Sustainable Development Assembly (YSDA) is a youth-serving NGO based in the Philippines. Aspiring for greater youth involvement in sustainable development through volunteerism and youth leadership, YSDA builds global leaders who are equipped with an impressive knowledge and understanding of community empowerment, environmental advocacies and grassroots-led sustainable development. YSDA provides young people a conducive environment to holistically practice sustainable development, implement community projects, engage decision-makers on issues that young people feel strongly the most, and learn more about themselves and the world around them. We mainstream youth participation in key development themes such as social enterprise, sustainable agriculture, water security, environmental sustainability and decent work. What we believe in YSDA adheres to the principles of global leadership and community empowerment to support our advocacy of mainstreaming youth participation in sustainable development. 1. Global Leadership YSDA believes in thinking Globally and acting Locally. We believe youth leaders should be able to understand that their local initiatives play a significant role in creating a better world for all of us, and that global decisions affect our work in local communities. We encourage interactions with different cultures and race, as it will help local youth leaders understand the value of cooperation and partnership, and eventually see the world as one community of actors working on the same cause but each with different roles to play. 2. Community Empowerment The community is the heart of sustainable development. Communities can directly solve the problems, if they are given the capacity to do so. With this realization, YSDA gets involved in direct community actions and implement projects that address specific problems in the communities we partner with. YSDA has had projects on: ecological waste management, eco-tourism, forest management, coastal and marine resources management, education for sustainable development, sustainable water, sanitation and health, peace education and conflict resolution, offgrid renewable energy, green transport, organic food and sustainable agriculture, ICT, education and decent employment, social entrepreneurship, cultural heritage preservation, species and habitat conservation, community health nutrition.
