First of, I want to assure the Committee that the Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association is not opposed to the idea of honoring Guam's leaders by designating government facilities with their namesakes. The problem created by Bill No. 35, especially during difficult fiscal times. is that it will require a tremendous amount of money for marketing and public relations to re-establish the Guam International Airport Authority's identity with the international community. We believe that, if funds are available for this purpose, it should be directed at marketing Guam as a destination, creating more employment and business opportunities for our community. OVERVIEW The Committee on Rules, General Governmental Operations, Reorganization and Reform, and Federal, Foreign and General Affairs held a public hearing at 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2001 in the Public Hearing Room, I Liheslaturan Guahan. Public notice was given in the Wednesday, November 28,2001 edition of the Pacific Daily News. Senators present at the public hearing were: Senator Mark Foses, Chairman 11. SUMMARY OF TESTIMONY Individuals appearing before the Committee to present oral and written testimony on the bill are as follows: There were no oral testimonies provided. David B. Tydingco, President, Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association, provided written testimony on the date of the cancelled public hearing on April 23,2001. The committee accepts this testimony for Bill No. 35 for the public hearing, scheduled on November 29,2001. In his testimony Mr. David Tydingco stated tgat his concern for the monies appropriated to implement such a name change in the identification of the GIAA in the international communitv comes in a time when cash resources are limited. He makes clear that the GHRA is not opposed to honoring Guam's leaders by designating gov't facilities with their namesakes FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATION The Committee on Rules, General Governmental Operations, Reorganization and Reform, and Federal, Foreign and General Affairs finds that Bill No. 35 would change the name identification of the A.B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam to the Antonio B. Won Pat International Airport Authority, Guam for the proper respect of Guam's first delegate in the U.S. Congress. It is befitting for the proper name to reflect the full name of the individual being honored and Bill 35 rectifies the error.
