3 Health Policy Health policy refers to decisions, plans, and actions that are undertaken to achieve specific health care goals within a society. An explicit health policy can achieve several things: it defines a vision for the future which in turn helps to establish targets and points of reference for the short and medium term. It outlines priorities and the expected roles of different groups; and it builds consensus and informs people. 5 Politics The definition of politics is in itself a political act (Leftwich, 1984). This is evident in the divergent conceptualizations of the political that are utilized both by different political ideologies (Heywood, 2000) and schools of thought in political science (Marsh and Stoker, 2002). 10 CMSA Model Act 2017 Title protection Promote Clinical Outcomes Optimizing Value-Based Purchasing Advanced Integration Improving Quality Goal: Case Management is Essential to Population Health Lobbying it doesn t have to be a bad word Direct lobbying: refers to attempts to influence a legislative body through communication with a member or employee of a legislative body, or with a government official who participates in formulating legislation. In either case, the communication must refer to and reflect a view on the legislation. Grass roots lobbying: refers to attempts to influence legislation by attempting to affect the opinion of the public with respect to the legislation and encouraging the audience to take action with respect to legislation.

14 Considerations Why do you want to meet the legislator? Can you prepare the story succinctly? Is there someone that has been impacted by the issue? If yes, can that person attend the meeting? If you are not a constituent what information do you want to provide? Are there other groups that share the same interest? Do and DON T Use appropriate address to legislator Immediately introduce yourself any others with you Tell why you are the expert Do not say. I m a taxpayer Don t apologize for time Do not argue Don t make notes while talking Don t be arrogant League of Women Voters

Newspapers? Social Media? How do you know? And what Websites? do you trust?
