1 District 11 D2Awards These awards are available yet this year 2016/17 but nomination application forms (attached) must be post marked or in our hands by February 28, 2016 District 11-D2 provides an opportunity for district clubs to honor both Lions and local area individuals by nominating them for the following awards based on established criteria provided in the following pages. District 11 D-2 Lion of the Year Award This is an award the shows the outstanding abilities of any Lion. The recipient does not have to be, or have been a Lion who has served on the District Level or above. Recipient does not have to be living, can be presented posthumously to family Recipient can only receive this award one time Recipient must demonstrate (or have demonstrated) the Spirit, the ethics, objectives, and the We Serve of Lions in dealing with the club, other people and the community Limited to the membership of 11 D-2 or possibly to honor an outstanding visiting Lion Must have at least 5 years as a Lion in good standing Only one recipient a year. If no candidate is nominated the award rolls over into the following year and allows for 2 awards to be given. No more than 2 awards in any year. No continuous rollover Any Lion in the District can submit a letter of nomination outlining the qualifications of the nominee. A letter of biography or outline of the nominees qualifications must not be more than 1 page Nominations must be sent to the GMT District Coordinator and postmarked no later than December 31 of any Lions year to be accepted An appropriate winner from all nominations will be determined by the Honorary Committee If at all possible the award will be presented at the District's Annual Convention The award is to be determined annually by three non-lions selected by GLT/GMT committee. Nominations must be sent in with an application and a one page biography for consideration. Only one will be presented each year, and will be presented at the

2 Districts Annual Convention. Nominations need to be sent to the GMT District Coordinator and postmarked by December 31 of each year. Club President will be notified with sufficient time to register recipient at the convention. PETE LAPKA LEADERSHIP Award This is an award the shows the leadership ability of any Lion. The recipient does not have to be, or have been a Lion who has served on the District Level or above. Recipient must be living Recipient can only receive this award one time in their Lions carrier Must exhibit outstanding leadership ability in Lions, their community, and other organizations Must have held offices in their Lions Club Creating leadership programs for the club is a plus but not required Having served in District positions is a plus but not required Must have chaired committees which have held successful projects/fund raisers Must have instructed/presented the club or others with leadership programs Must be careful with criticism and liberal with praise; to build up and not destroy Have mentored others to be successful Lions Have shown others the way to remain positive and inspire others to be leaders Demonstrates the Lions Code of ethics and International purposes in dealing with the club, other people and the community The award is to be determined annualy by the most current 3 recipients and the Global Leadership Team District Coordinator. Nominations must be sent in by the Club President for consideration. Only one will be presented each year, and will be presented at the Districts Annual Convention. Marion (Mac) Makarewicz Dedicated to Membership Award This is an award the shows the Membership recruiting and training ability of any Lion. The recipient does not have to be, or have been a Lion who has served on the District Level or above. Recipient must be living Recipient can only receive this award one time in their Lions carrier Must exhibit outstanding membership recruiting ability in Lions Must have held the office of Membership Chairperson in their Lions Club

3 Must have chaired the Membership Committee which has held successful recruiting efforts Must have instructed/presented the club with Membership, Orientation, Retention, and Recruiting programs Creating contests and membership programs for the club is a plus but not required Having served in District positions is a plus but not required Must be careful with criticism and liberal with praise; to build up and not destroy Have mentored others to be successful recruiting Lions Have shown others the way to remain positive and inspire others to be leaders Demonstrates the Lions Code of ethics and International purposes in dealing with the club, other people and the community The award is to be determined annually by the most current 3 recipients and the Global Membership Team District Coordinator. Nominations must be sent in by the Club President for consideration. Only one will be presented each year, and will be presented at the District's Annual Convention. HEART OF A LION Award Unlike other awards the Heart of A Lion is not based on leadership or membership activities. Many times the people who deserve this award are in the background and do their service quietly and sometimes unobserved, and without complaint. The criteria for this award is best shown by a Lion or a non-lion through the definitions of Lions Objects and Ethics This award is presented to any individual who has unselfishly served the needs of their community and the people who live within it. Showing true service by working their career honestly, with dignity, and with dedication, by giving sympathy to those of the community who are in distress, giving aid to the weak, and giving of their substance to the needy. These people demonstrate the principles of good government and good citizenship. They take an active interest in all the aspects of their community and serve with good will and courage. Award recipients do not have to be a club member, they may belong to the Lions Club, or any community member not connected with Lions, and/or belong to another organization. In order to have a member of your club or community receive this award, the following has to occur. This award is available to either male or female, and age is no barrier. The award is available to any club only one time in any Lions year.

4 A member of the club must be chosen by the President and/or Secretary. Or in the event that a community member/non Lion is chosen then it should be done by the Board of Directors of the club. A short biography (2 or 3 paragraphs) needs to be written about the person receiving the award. Prior to the official visit of the District Governor, this information needs to be sent to either Global Leadership Team District Coordinator, Wes Wagester, PDG, or Global Membership Team District Coordinator, Dave Eberlein, PDG (contact information is in the District Roster). A completed certificate in the recipient s name and the accompanying biography will be forwarded to the District Governor. This award will then be presented by the District Governor when the official visit occurs. For a presentation to a non-lion/community member, arrangements must be made by the responsible club to have the Governor present when the recipient is present at a meeting or other Lions club function. The following application must be submitted for all awards. This information will also be available on our website under the Club Tools pull down.

All nominations will be considered. Three awards are designed to be presented at the annual district convention. The Heart of a Lion Award is to be presented at a Lions Club meeting or funciton.
