2 CHECKLIST ELECTORATE CANDIDATE NOMINATION All electorate candidate nominees must complete two forms the Electorate Candidate Nomination Form and the Electorate Candidate Biography. Nominees are encouraged to also send in a full CV, a high resolution photograph and a 1 page A4 support flyer in support of their application. The 1 page flyer will be used to as information for members should there be a selection. Nominations must be ed as PDF attachments to nominations@labour.org.nz and hard copies posted to NZLP Nominations, PO Box 784, Wellington. Questions? Through the member nomination option (section 1) or the constituent organisation option (section 2). Section 3 must be completed out by all nominees. 1. "Having been nominated as a Candidate for selection in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution for the electorate in the 2017 General Election, I hereby accept nomination and declare: i. I am not a member of any political party or any organisation membership of which is declared by the Annual Conference or the New Zealand Council to be incompatible with membership of the New Zealand Labour Party ( The Party ). ii. I will wholeheartedly support the duly selected candidates of the Party. iii. If selected as a candidate, I will not withdraw without the consent of the Party organisation controlling the election. iv. I will faithfully observe the Constitution and Policy Platform of the Party. v. If elected, I will vote on all questions in accordance with the decisions of the Caucus of the Parliamentary Labour Party, or in the case of Local Body questions, a duly constituted meeting of Party representatives on such body. vi. 7 STRATEGIC SELECTION CRITERIA for 2017 Parliamentary candidate selections (electorate and list) as agreed by New Zealand Council Note: these criteria are to be applied alongside NZLP constitutional objectives in place to elect competent men and women to Parliament and requirements in relation to fair representation. A Prospective candidates should demonstrate the following attributes: A strong commitment to Labour values and principles A robust knowledge of the Labour Party, its organization and contemporary electoral strategies Candidates for Māori electorates particularly will demonstrate superior ability to engage successfully in Te Ao Māori Good communication skills and experience, both written and spoken Superior analytical skills and experience Organising, campaigning and fundraising skills and experience, including experience at local and community levels The ability to work effectively in formal and informal teams Leadership experience, or the potential for leadership. B Candidates should combine the following personal characteristics : Sound judgement High ethical standards The capacity to operate effectively under pressure over extended periods The capacity to work successfully in complex, often multicultural, environments. C Particular qualities required in the pool of candidates for 2017 include: Legal qualifications The ability to work with important ethnic communities Applied economic and commercial skills Experience in the health sector Deep understanding of environment issues Experience of workplace and trade union organization Managerial skills Primary sector experience. 6
