2 History Prior to 1924, wives of Rotarians had been voluntarily,in the background, helping them in their services Led by Margarette Golding discussed the possibility of forming an independent ladies group run on rotary lines. The objects of the Club was 2 fold:- To foster friendship Personal service 10th Jan.1924 marked the actual commencement of Inner Wheel with the formation of the Manchester Club. Now recognised as World Inner Wheel Day. Margarette Golding became the 1st President and named the Club, Inner Wheel. Respecting the wishes of Rotary the word Rotary was avoided while the link with the men's organisation was symbolized by their badge-'the Rotary Wheel.

3 The Association of IW Clubs in Great Britain and Ireland (GB&I) was formed with a Governing Body of guiding the growing nos. of Clubs and District GB&I was taken off and now known as Association of Inner Wheel from a national organisation to a world wide organisation members from Europe were invited to sit on the governing body at the Association Conference All clubs became members of International Inner Wheel Had members from all the countries represented on the board The Governing Body was restructured with executive committee and sixteen elected board directors Constitution Chairman admitted as member of the Exco.

4 The Strength of the Inner Wheel in the World One of the largest women's voluntary service organistions in the world (over 103,000 members) Linking together members all around the world, on every continent (103 Countries) Not sectarian or party political, BUT devoted to helping others and offering friendship, service and support

6 The Name, The Logos The year, The Language Name is : International Inner Wheel The official logo the wheel. See guidelines of usage of the logo. It is to maintain high standards and consistency across the brand, so that we continue to gain recognition and respect. The Inner Wheel year 1st July to 30th June The official language is English

8 United Nations NGO, part of the ECOSOC Have 6 Inner Wheel Representatives at UN, Geneva, Vienna and New York Representatives are coordinated every year by the current International Vice President

10 IIW GOVERNING BODY A. Executive Officers a: President elected for 1 year only and cannot serve again. b: VP elected for 1 year only and cannot serve again. c: Treasurer may serve for a maximum of 3 consecutive years only but must be nominated and elected annually. d: Immediate Past President. e: Chairman of the Constitution Committee may serve for a maximum of 3 years and elected annually All the above must be members of a NGB

11 Constitution Committee e: Constitution Chairman a: Appointed by the Governing Body annually b: May serve for a maximum of 3 years c: Must have been a past member of the International Inner Wheel Governing Body. d: Committee consist of Constitution Chairman, the President and Vice President of International Inner Wheel.

12 Board Directors B. Board Directors a: Total of 16 members. b: 13 places filled by nominees with the highest number of votes. c: 3 places reserved for nominees from countries with less than 1,000 members d: Must be a National Rep. or Past National Representative. e: Elected annually and can serve for a maximum of 2years consecutively. f: Countries with less than 1,000 members can serve again after an interval of 1 year. Note these may change at the 2015 convention

13 Editor a: Not a member of Executive Committee. b: Must have been a National Body or District Editor for at least 1 year at the time of nomination. c: Elected annually and may serve for a maximum of 3 consecutive years.

14 National Representative The National Representative or Communication Coordinator is the liaison between the Clubs, Districts, National Governing Bodies and International Inner Wheel. Plays no part in the running of the Clubs and District in countries with no NGB

15 Secretary Not member of Inner Wheel but paid employees. Total of 3. I full time and 2 part time. Day to Day running of the office. Record minutes Attend to correspondence and coordinate all meetings of executive and Board Manage the web together with Editor.

16 Clubs 2 Kinds of Club Districted Clubs-Clubs organised in Districts Non Districted Clubs- Clubs not organised in Districts. IIW has jurisdiction over them directly. NDC correspond directly with IIW through an International Officer, generally the VP. The minimun no. to form a club is 12

17 District The District is a geographical area in which Clubs are grouped conveniently for administrative duties within a country. a: Minimum number to form a District is 4 Clubs b: The District Committee is the Governing Body of the District

18 National Governing Body/Association Includes all the Districts and Clubs within its boundaries. The minimum number of Disticts required to form a National Governing Body is 2 It is another level of administration with its own Executive Committee.
