3 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS Four copies of the manuscript should be submitted to the Editor. Clear photo copies are acceptable. The manuscript should be typed double-spaced in clean copy. Materials printed on computer wordprocessing systems are acceptable. The name(s), affiliation(s), and address(es) of the authors, title of the paper, and other identifying statements should be on a separate page. This page will be removed before sending the manuscript to the referees. The first page of the paper should contain the title and text, but no reference to the author(s) that would allow the referees to identify the author(s) or affiliation(s). As a general rule, the paper should be no longer than twenty pages. Under special circumstances, substantially longer papers may be considered for publication in more than one part. Short notes of two or three pages are encouraged. Mathematical notation, figures, and tables should be held to the minimum required for the presentation of the material. Authors with papers accepted for publication will be asked to supply camera-ready copy of all figures and maps. Notes and references should be on separate pages rather than in the text. Consult this issue of The Review of Regional Studies for the style used in attribution of references. Manuscripts will be acknowledged immediately upon receipt and receive prompt consideration. All manuscripts are submitted to two referees and a member of the Editorial Board for review. The review process is typically one-to-two months in length. Within ten days after the review period, under normal circumstances, the author(s) will be notified concerning the determination of the referees and editors.

4 The Review of Regional Studies is published for the Southern Regional Science Association by The Strom Thurmond Institute of Government and Public Affairs at Clemson. The Review of Regional Studies is published three times each year-in the winter, spring, and fall. Individual subscriptions to The Review of Regional Studies are available through membership in the Southern Regional Science Association. Membership dues are ten dollars per year for regular members and five dollars per year for students enrolled in programs of study related to regional science. All inquiries concerning membership in the Southern Regional Science Association should be addressed to Mark S.
