Total $ 9, $ 192, Federal Staff Support Years (FTE) a. How does the Committee accomplish its purpose? The Committee meets in open sessions on a regular basis, with a wide variety of presentations made by senior staff members from both the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH). There are also several work groups which meet from time to time to do data gathering and produce material from which the full Committee produces recommendations in open sessions. Each meeting begins with a full overview of activities given by the heads of the two agencies. 20b. How does the Committee balance its membership? As specified by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 (OSH Act), NACOSH is composed of the following representatives: four public, two management, two labor, two occupational health and two occupational safety professionals. Two of the public and both of the health representatives are designated by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. All members are officially appointed by the Secretary of Labor. Consideration is given to diversity in size, type of business, geographic location and personal experience. An effort is made to represent all elements of industry and the public. 20c. How frequent and relevant are the Committee Meetings? In FY 2018, the Committee did not convene for any meetings. 20d. Why can't the advice or information this committee provides be obtained elsewhere? This is the only group of a continuing nature that brings together employee, employer, and public interests regarding occupational safety and health. The advice of this group is important to both OSHA and NIOSH in fulfilling their functions. 20e. Why is it necessary to close and/or partially closed committee meetings? All committee meetings are open. 21. Remarks This Committee reports to the Secretaries of Labor and Health and Human

3 Services. NACOSH did not meet FY18. Committee activities and operations were being reviewed in accordance with Executive Order 13781, Comprehensive Plan for Reorganizing the Executive Branch, to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability of Executive Branch agencies.
