1 Trip Report WASSC 33 th Regular Session 2-5 July 2012, International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna Meeting Objectives: WASSC( Waste Safety Standard Committee) is the committee of member states and NGO to approve all waste related IAEA standards before final approval by Board of Publication Committee and publication. It also approves all DDP (document development proposals) before starting work. Body of report: General: Partly held as joint meeting with NUSSC Agenda of the meeting- please see attachment Presentations are published under Major issues: Presentation on the Status of the Fukushima Daiichi NPP's, including regulatory and decommissioning/remediation matters report Mr S. Maki,Mr K. Oue- gives an good overview about the situation of nuclear energy in Japan Nuclear Security Committee is established - Mr I. Barraclough is Secretary of Nuclear Security Guidance Committee (NSGC)- currently cooperation AdSec with Committee of Safety Standard Committees is under development. The idea is to establish NSGC on the same level as the Safety Standard Committees. In May 2012 MS nominated members- currently 40 members states- next meeting NGO shall be invited as observers before December meeting DS458: Radiation Safety and Regulatory Control for Consumer Products may be of interest for ISSPA members (please see: W.9.4 DS458 Draft Safety Guide_Gusev at the web page.) Other issues: Meeting with Brian Waud regarding source security working group- present intension is to hold a technical meeting (understood as a working group meeting) November political discussions about the terms of references and the purpose ongoing also with the missions of member states in Vienna (group to coordinate bilateral work vs. group to support an internationally harmonized approach to source security 1
