3 1848: Creating Declaration of Sentiments for WOMEN s RIGHTS Lucretia Mott a Quaker, Abolitionist, WOMENs RIGHTS Activist and Social Reformer.(Born in Nantucket, MA died in 1880 in PA) She initiated the idea that Women should hold Leadership roles in society while she was at the World Anti-Slavery Convention in She formed the idea while she was one of the women Excluded from the Convention! In 1848, she was a key sculpture of the Declaration of Sentiments with E.C Stanton and others at the Seneca Falls Convention in EC Stanton 1 st was inspired by Motts conviction while she was on her Honeymoon in England; later remaining friends and advocates of WOMENs RIGHTS.

4 1848: Elizabeth Cady Stanton Elizabeth Cady Stanton ( ) was instrumental in initiating WOMEN s RIGHTS Movement along with L.Mott(Q), M.McIintock(Q), F.Douglas and others is best known for writing the Declaration of Sentiments a document Equivalent to Declaration of Independence but NOT YET Ratified;(both are Enlightment Documents) presented at the 1 st Seneca Falls Women s Convention in 1848,Seneca Falls, NY. Her Father a Judge& husband a lawyer, she organized the Women s Suffrage Movement in the US. Throughout her life, Stanton passionately elevated the status of Women through Equal Rights, although she did not live to see the National Vote in 1920-her efforts were well established and followed through with the next generation. Stanton was educated at the Coed Johnstown Academy, NY until she was 16, then attended Troy s Female Seminary(Emma Williard)later trying to attend Union College, but was barred from entry due to her sex. While on her Honeymoon in London, she attended Anti-Slavery Convention where she met Lucretia Mott who influenced her into action.

6 1852 Susan B. Anthony Born (Adams, MA) - Died (Rochester, NY) A Great American Women's Rights Activist who played a significant role in Women's Suffrage Movement. Quaker by birth who believe in Equality; she first began campaigning for Women's Rights after meeting E.C Stanton 1851 and was harshly ridiculed and accused of trying to destroy the institution of marriage. In 1852, founded NY Women's State Temperance Society. Anthony was prevented from speaking in Albany at the Temperance Conference because she was female, so she persisted. In 1866, she initiated American Equal Rights Association, campaigning for Equal Rights for both Women & African Americans and 1868, published a Women's Rights Newspaper titled THE REVOULTION! In 1872, Susan was arrested for voting in Rochester, NY and convicted in a widely publicized trial! She still continued. Public perception of her changed radically during her lifetime, however. On her 80th birthday she was celebrated at the White House by President William McKinley. She is the 1 st Woman depicted on U.S. currency with her portrait in 1979 on the Dollar coin.

11 1917: NY State 1 st Women s VOTE Celebrating ~ 100 Year Anniversary( ) November 6, 1917 ''Thousands of registration fliers and copies of 'What Every Woman Needs to Know About Voting' were sent out,'' ''On Election Day, the day of days, it seemed that every woman not suffering from Spanish influenza voted.''
