2 The term of the Task Force shall terminate on the earlier of: 1) the date that the Task Force presents its strategic report and/or recommendations to City Council, or 2) March 31, 2019, unless the term of the Task Force is extended by City Council. 1) Mr. Altieri is seeking appointment as a non-resident. The City s Code of Ordinances, Sec. 2-51(2) states the City Council may waive the requirement of city residency if, in its discretion, it determines that the City s interests would be best served by appointing a non-resident. 2) Ms. Daire has also applied to the Art in Public Places Advisory Board.* 3) Ms. Drucker is currently a member of the Historic Preservation Board.* 4) Ms. Petrich has also applied to the Green Living Advisory Board. The ETF is her preference should she only be considered for one position.* 5) Mr. Thomson is currently a member of the Community Advisory Panel.* *City Code Section 2-51(3) states Unless otherwise prohibited by law or ordinance, the city council may appoint a member of a board or commission to 1 other board or commission if in the opinion of the city council such person is otherwise qualified for membership on such board or commission, and if the appointment does not result in dual membership on boards or commissions having more than advisory powers. RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF BOCA RATON 3 CREATING THE EDUCATION TASK FORCE; PROVIDING 4 MEMBERSHIP, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES; 5 PROVIDING FOR SEVERABILITY; PROVIDING FOR 6 REPEALER; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE 7 8 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Boca Raton is committed to promoting and 9 supporting excellence in the education of the children who reside within the City; and 10 WHEREAS, more than half of the public schools in the City of Boca Raton do not 11 meet Palm Beach County School District capacity standards due to the growth in student 12 population and the dearth of new school construction; and 13 WHEREAS, in order to maintain the quality of education in the City, it is important to 14 work collaboratively with the Palm Beach County School District to ensure that our children 15 receive the best education possible in school facilities that meet District capacity standards; and 16 WHEREAS, the City Council desires to establish a task force to review and report on 17 the status of public school facility capacity, construction and renovation in the City; now 18 therefore 19 1

4 1 "BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOCA 2 RATON: 3 Section 1. The Education Task Force (Task Force), composed of seven (7) voting 4 members appointed by the City Council, is hereby created. 5 Section 2. Task Force voting members shall be City residents with an interest in 6 education. At least three (3) members shall be parents of children attending public schools 7 within the City, grades K Section 3. The Palm Beach County School Board District 5 Member representing the 9 City of Boca Raton may be an ex officio member. 10 Section 4. The Task Force shall elect a Chairman, a Vice-Chairman, and such 11 officers that it deems necessary. 12 Section 5. The members of the Task Force shall serve without compensation. 13 Section 6. An organizational meeting of the Task Force will be held within 30 days of 14 appointment of all Task Force members. 15 Section 7. The Task Force will present a work plan to the City Council within 60 days 16 of appointment of all Task Force members. 17 Section 8. The Task Force will meet on a quarterly basis at a minimum. 18 Section 9. The Task Force shall present a written report to the City Council (on or 19 before March 31, 2019, unless extended by the City Council), setting forth its recommendations 20 on the status of public school facility construction/renovation. 21 Section 10. The City Manager shall furnish such administrative and clerical support as 22 he deems advisable. 23 Section 11. The term of the Task Force shall terminate on the earlier of: 1) the date 24 that the Task Force presents its strategic report and/or recommendations to City Council, or 2) 25 March 31, 2019, unless the term of the Task Force is extended by City Council. 26 2

5 1 Section 12. If any section, subsection, clause or provision of this resolution is held 2 invalid, the remainder shall not be affected by such invalidity. 3 Section 13. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith shall be and 4 hereby are repealed. 5 Section 14.
