1 THE PREPARED CURRICULUM: FOR POST-SECONDARY AND CAREER READINESS Military Awareness Curriculum Course Overview Each year thousands of people make the decision to leave the military because of pursuing higher education, retirement, or a civilian occupation and more. Whatever the reasons for their decision, the military must replace anyone that leaves regardless of the reason. An estimated 400,000 new recruits are welcomed by the U.S. military. All branches of the military must attract the most qualified candidates and train them to be able to accomplish its mission. Compared to other forms of post-secondary options students have upon completion of his/her high school career, students and parents often view the military as investing an extraordinary amount of time and energy into planning for a career. High school students often report initial skepticism of the military planning efforts, but they come to appreciate them as an asset for the serious decision makers. The military syllabus can help a student prevent surprises and provide tactical flexibility during the process. Our military syllabus is intended to provide students, parents and mentors who are working with military professionals with an overview of the military planning and decision-making process.
