AUTHOR S SYNOPSES UDK 272: (497.4) Marjan SMRKE: THE COLLAPSE OF SLOVENIA S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH AS REFLECTED IN THE SLOVENIAN PUBLIC OPINION SURVEY (SPOS) Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg Slovenia s Roman Catholic Church lost four of its archbishops in less than four years. The removal of two successive leaderships has no parallel in recent European history, and its cause was largely a consequence of the collapse of the financial empire created by the Maribor Archdiocese. The question arises as to how this downfall has been reflected in the time series data concerning religious belief measured by the Slovenian Public Opinion Survey. According to this research, the values of variables/indicators pertaining to church adherence and religious belief have in recent years deviated little from the weak trend towards secularization apparent throughout the period of (post-socialist) transition, while the values of other variables (namely church attendance and trust in the institution) indicate an even greater distancing from the Church as an institution. This distancing is sufficient to be considered indicative of a new sociological state within the context of four distinct periods of (de)secularization in Slovenia identified by the SPOS survey since Keywords: Catholic Church, depositions of archbishops, religiosity, secularization UDK 29:316.35(497.4) Gregor LESJAK and Aleš ČRNIČ: SLOVENIAN CREATED RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES AND THEIR CONTEXT Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg The article analyses a special group of Slovenian religious organisations, created religious communities (leaning on the term invented religions coined by the Australian scholar of religion C. Cusack) namely, very diverse (at least intended to be) religious organisations which emerged in response to a specific legal problem and/or as a protest against very specific actions of the state in the last 15 years. As unique and interesting, although quantitatively not very significant and qualitatively borderline cases, they must find their place (together with other Slovenian radical religious innovations) in the general religious picture. The latter is introduced through the contents of the Catalogue of Slovenian Religious Organisations, which derives from the first empirical sociological research of new religious and spiritual movements in

Slovenia conducted by the authors since 2003, and which has today grown into a systematically arranged database of all Slovenian religious organisations. Keywords: invented religious communities, catalogue of Slovenian religious organisations, registration of religious communities UDK :327(497.4:73) Rok ZUPANČIČ: PREVENTING, PERSUADING AND REGRETTING: THE USA, THE DISSOLUTION OF YUGOSLAVIA AND THE QUESTION OF THE DIPLOMATIC (NON)RECOGNITION OF SLOVENIA ( ) Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg The paper analyses US foreign policy and the US government s position on the diplomatic recognition of Slovenia at the beginning of the 1990s. The author analyses the period between 1990, when the Bush Administration fervently opposed the independence of Slovenia (and supported the territorial integrity of communist Yugoslavia), and April 1992, when the US government diplomatically recognised Slovenia. The methodology is based on interviews with some key diplomats in the US government who were engaged in forming and implementing US foreign policy regarding Yugoslavia/Slovenia between 1990 and 1992, interviews with Slovenian diplomats, and an analysis of secondary and primary sources obtained in US archives. The author argues that the conservative view of international affairs and the rigidity of US diplomats, which did not reflect an understanding of the geopolitical changes in the 1990s, significantly contributed to the fact that the USA advocated a non-recognition approach even though the USA, at least declaratively, has been a supporter of democratic changes and the principle of self-determination. Keywords: security in South-east Europe, independence of Slovenia, diplomatic recognition, foreign policy of the USA, dissolution of Yugoslavia, South-east Europe (the Balkans) 563

UDK :929Chávez H. Sanja ČELOFIGA, Maja GARB: THE CHARISMA OF HUGO CHAVEZ Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg Former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was described as a charismatic state leader by several mass media. There are various definitions of charisma, although a special bond between the people and the leader is an important element of charismatic leadership. The sociological study that is conducted of Chavez s functioning as a state leader is based on Weber s theory of charismatic authority. There are five factors of charisma derived from that theory (situational factor a state of crisis, the leader s vision, behavioural characteristics of the leader, characteristics of the followers, and the validation of charisma according to continuous successes), with the study results showing that Chavez s leadership over 15 years fulfils all five of them. Keywords: Hugo Chavez, Venezuela, charisma, charismatic leadership, Max Weber, theory of charismatic authority 564 UDK : /.3 Metod ŠULIGOJ, Iris MRĐA: PERCEPTIONS OF THE ORGANISATIONAL CULTURE OF A TOURIST DESTINATION: THE CASE OF A NORTH ADRIATIC COASTAL DESTINATION Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg The paper is focused on the organisational culture of the tourism industry in the tourist destination of Portorož. The purpose of the research was to determine differences between managers and employees and, separately, between the two genders in view of the factors of organisational culture. First, based on a compilation and comparison we developed a theoretical basis for the empirical research. In addition, using a questionnaire we collected 149 views of respondents employed in four sectors of the tourism industry. Due to the non-normal distribution of the sample, the nonparametric Mann-Whitney test was used to detect differences and, in addition, to determine any differences between genders an independent samples t-test was employed. Finally, no statistically significant differences were found between managers and employees in the vast majority of variables; this also applies to gender differences. Keywords: organisational culture, tourism, destination of Portorož, gender, position

Konstantin K. KHUDOLEY: RUSKA ZUNANJA POLITIKA SREDI AKTUALNIH MEDNARODNIH NAPETOSTI Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, let. Ključni pojmi: ruska zunanja politika, ukrajinska kriza, Evropa, ZDA, azijsko-pacifiška regija, sankcije UDK :728.2 Srna MANDIČ: EMPOWERMENT OF RESIDENTS IN MULTI-DWELLING HOUSING Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg The article deals with residents of multi-dwelling buildings and their ability to have control over common issues and bring about desired changes. As our starting point, we use the conceptual framework of empowerment, which highlights participation and collaboration with others as the main source of power for change. By analysing data from a survey of residents in multi-dwelling buildings in Ljubljana, we explore the level of perceived empowerment among residents as well as their attitudes and resources used in dealing with common issues. Regression analysis found that the perceived level of empowerment was most strongly impacted not by stratification characteristics as the traditional source of power, but by an active, positive attitude to change and successful past experience, thus falling in line with the learned hopefulness hypothesis. Keywords: multi-dwelling housing, residents, empowerment, participation, survey

UDK :061.2(497.4) Tatjana RAKAR and Tomaž DEŽELAN: EMPOWERMENT OF CIVIL SOCIETY ORGANISATIONS IN SLOVENIA Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg On the basis of civil society research in Slovenia, the authors analyse the empowerment of civil society organisations as carriers of civil dialogue. The analysis shows that in Slovenia civil society organisations have general support from the government and that they are invited to participate in the preparation of policies, yet their actual role and contribution to social welfare and cohesion is disregarded. Slovenia is still in the process forming the structure for the actual implementation of civil dialogue and shows a clear discrepancy between the activity (and scope) of civil society and its influence within society and towards the state. The analysis shows that in Slovenia the relationship between civil society organisations and the state can be placed in the model of separate autonomy, characterised by low government financing and the moderate autonomy of civil society organisations as well as a low level of communication and contacts between civil society organisations and the state. Hence, the conclusion is that the level of the civil society sector s empowerment in Slovenia is relatively low. Keywords: civil society organisations, empowerment, civil dialogue, welfare system UDK : (497.4Ljubljana) Maša FILIPOVIČ HRAST: EMPOWERMENT AT THE COMMUNITY LEVEL: ANALYSIS OF PEOPLE S ATTITUDES, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOUR Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg Today we are facing the need to renovate large housing estates with multi-family buildings, as they are facing various problems. The key element of such renewal is the participation of residents, which is based on the feeling of control over the quality of life in a neighbourhood, i.e. the empowerment of neighbourhood residents. The article presents the results of a survey on neighbouring relations carried out in the Municipality of Ljubljana. Empowerment was operationalised with three dimensions: attitudes, knowledge and behavioural. We analyse the factors linked with the empowerment of residents in multi-family buildings. These are socio-demographic factors as well as attachment to the neighbourhood, contact with neighbours and trust among neighbours.

Keywords: neighbourhood, empowerment, participation, neighbourhood attachment, trust UDK :613.9:711.58(497.4Ljubljana) Matic KAVČIČ, Majda PAHOR: INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS AND HEALTH IN THE CONTEXT OF THE NEIGHBOURHOOD Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg People living in neighbourhoods have a range of interpersonal relationships. In this article, we want to examine whether the characteristics of people s interpersonal relationships in a neighbourhood and the characteristics of their health are related. We investigated this problem in a study of the population of residents of multi-apartment buildings in Ljubljana s neighbourhoods. Empirical data were gathered from a survey of neighbourly relations. The findings of bivariate analyses and multiple linear regression show that already known factors such as the financial situation of the household and age remain the most important predictors of health. However, we found that certain aspects and characteristics of interpersonal relationships have a significant impact on the health of the inhabitants of these residential communities. In particular, we examined empowerment, which proved to be an important factor and should be given more research attention in the future. Keywords: health, neighbourhood, local community, empowerment, relational health factors 567 UDK : (4) Deborah Cristina de OLIVEIRA in Valentina HLEBEC: DEJAVNIKI, KI VPLIVAJO NA ZADOVOLJSTVO Z ŽIVLJENJEM PRI DRUŽINSKIH OSKRBOVALCIH: EVROPSKA RAZISKAVA O KAKOVOSTI ŽIVLJENJA Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, let.

Ključni pojmi: neformalna oskrba, družinski oskrbovalci, zadovoljstvo z življenjem, linearna regresija, Evropska raziskava o kakovosti življenja UDK : Zdenka ŠADL: EMOTIONAL INEQUALITY, CARE AND EMOTIONAL CAPITAL Teorija in praksa, Ljubljana 2016, Vol. LIII, No. 2, pg This paper deals with caring and emotional relations as analytical categories for understanding how social inequality is constructed and constituted within different micro spheres of social life. In this context, the author explores the notion of emotional resources, which has been less researched in sociology than conventional notions of economic, political and symbolic resources, and points out their relevance for the individual s well-being, behaviour, personal goals and life chances. Special attention is paid to two forms of inequality: differential access to positive emotional bonds and care, and unequal distribution of care work and emotional work of care within the family. It is suggested that, in order to further understanding of social inequality, Bourdieu s concept of capital needs to be extended to take account of emotional relations (in terms of caring) as both generative and reflective of social and economic stratification. Keywords: social inequality, family, care, emotional work, emotional capital
