6 FairCom releases V3.10 of ODBC Driver, with huge file read/write capabilities and integrated driver capabilities, and new FairCom ODBC Driver SDK Columbia, MO February 27, 2001 FairCom Corporation announced the latest release of its FairCom ODBC Driver, version V3.10, in both 16 bit and 32 bit models. Both drivers support full read/write capabilities, enhanced file opening, and are threadsafe. This version of the FairCom ODBC Driver can also read and update huge files, greater than 4 gigabytes, created by the FairCom Server. "FairCom has implemented huge file support in a recent version of the FairCom database Server," explains Randal Hoff, FairCom's Director of Business Development. "This new release of our ODBC driver allows users to access and update these files that can store up to 18,000,000 terabytes of data in a single file." Additionally, the new FairCom ODBC Driver is fully integrated, allowing both of the new FairCom ODBC drivers and the FairCom Crystal Reports» driver to share DLLs. Allowing Drivers to share DLLs simplifies implementation by limiting the number of files on disk. FairCom Driver SDK developers need only develop one custom DLL for all three Drivers. All three drivers can share FairCom Driver SDK custom DLLs. In client/server mode, the FairCom ODBC Driver supports SPX, TCP/IP and Netbios communication protocols. Other features include: a dictionary creation option, which allows the user to browse and select the files they wish to use; OEM to ANSI data conversion; debug settings; padding for fixed length strings; and full online help files. Jeff Krall, Project Manager for the FairCom ODBC Driver, said, "Since the initial release in 1995, FairCom's ODBC Driver has been implemented in several vertical market accounting and school automation packages with customer bases in the tens of thousands. This high level interface has proven to be a great benefit to these customers and the FairCom customer base at large." FairCom also offers a new Driver SDK which extends the functionality of the FairCom ODBC Driver, allowing the programmer to intercept c-tree Plus records before writing to disk and before displaying to the user by building a custom c-tree Plus dynamic link library (DLL). This allows the programmer to perform any special data manipulation as required by their application including supporting special data types, performing custom sorts/calculations, etc. The FairCom ODBC record intercept and data-type conversion routines are provided in full C source. FairCom also offers an ODBC Driver for the original c-tree 4.X release, still widely used as an embeddable file handler in industries ranging from finance and medical record management to embedded process controls. 7 FairCom releases new version of c-tree Server with huge file support and segmented data and index files Columbia, MO April 2, 2001 FairCom Corporation announced the latest release of FairCom's database server, the c-tree Server V7.10. This new release of FairCom's database server product offers what FairCom terms "huge file support" which allows data and index files to support up to 18,000,000 terabytes. This file support allows writing to a file's offset beyond the extent of a four byte pointer (32 bit integer), which is limited to 4 gigabytes. A growing number of operating systems, including Windows 2000 and many Unix systems, now support 64 bit file I/O. "FairCom now offers developers a great advantage by supporting individual file sizes up to 18 exabytes (18 million terabytes)," explains Randal Hoff, FairCom's Director of Business Development. "This ability to store vast amounts of data in a single file is made possible by 64-bit CPU architecture, providing us with true 64-bit addressing logic that is used by Windows 2000, Solaris, HP UX, AIX and Tru64 systems. Further, because we can store literally any type of data and because 64 bit hardware offers significant speed advantages, FairCom's technology is ideal for any type of imaging, video or audio storage," Hoff added. If the underlying operating system does not support 64 bit integers, FairCom offers a concept of segmented files. Segmented files permit a logical file to be transparently spread across two or more physical files. Each physical file may itself be up to 4 GB. The segment definitions can be changed dynamically, allowing files to grow as necessary. Segmented files may also be used in situations where the total size of the file exceeds the capacity of the individual physical storage device. This file segment logic allows a data or index file to span multiple physical files and/or disk drives. The segment definition for a file can be changed dynamically without locking the file. "We've also added the ability to designate large file extension sizes as well as a separate specification for the size of the file's first extension," Hoff says. "This is particularly attractive for those applications like ASP and web development, medical devices, enterprise level software and point-of-sale systems." Additionally, this release includes FairCom's Server SDK, which allows customers to further expand the benefits of the client/server model by moving application-specific logic to the c-tree Server. This results in reduced network traffic by allowing the Server to perform data intensive operations directly on the same host computer where the data resides. Customers have used this functionality to implement extensive ASP systems, data calculations, custom sorts, and implement special security/encryption needs. The release of the Server SDK follows FairCom's commitment to putting control in the hands of the developer, according to Hoff. This new release also provides direct support for HP UX 11, Apple's Mac OS X, Solaris V7 and V8, Lynx OS V3, NetBSD, Linux, and Windows ME, in addition to the 25+ platforms already supported. FairCom created Access Manager for Digital Research in 1979 and released its first true application development tool, the original c-tree file handler, that same year. Today c-tree Plus is running in over 100 CPU/OS environments in more than 100 countries worldwide. 11 New generation of c-tree Plus forms foundation for new technology Columbia, MO April 8, 2002 FairCom Corporation announced that a new generation of their popular c-tree Plus data management system is now available. This technology forms the foundation upon which new features and programming interfaces into the core technology will be built. This first formal release of FairCom's new V7 line includes several significant new features including HUGE files, segmented files, Unicode support, and enhanced platform support. HUGE files allow data and index files to support up to 18,000,000 terabytes of data. It gives the c-tree developer the ability to create files larger than the previous limit of 4 gigabytes. If the underlying operating system does not support files greater than 4 gigabytes, then FairCom's segmented file support can be used to permit a logical file to be transparently spread across two or more physical files. Each physical file itself may then be up to 4 GB. Segmented files can also be used in situations where the total size of the file exceeds the capacity of the individual physical storage device because this file segment logic allows a data or index file to span multiple physical files and/or disk drives. HUGE and segmented file support were first introduced in FairCom's client/server models last year, and are now available with the peer-to-peer models available in c-tree Plus. "FairCom's HUGE and segmented file support has opened a powerful new venue for developers to harness the processing potential of the newer 64-bit CPU architecture used by the latest generation of operating systems," explains Randal Hoff, FairCom's Director of Business Development. The new release of c-tree Plus also includes enhanced Unicode support. It incorporates four new Unicode field types for storing UTF8 and UTF16 data, a new "extended key segment" mode to accommodate Unicode key segments, and support for Unicode file names. Unicode is an effort to standardize the representations of all languages and incorporates the characters of all the major government standards for ideographic characters. c-tree Plus also now offers direct support for Microsoft's Windows CE and the latest release of QNX QNX RTP operating systems. The efficiency of the compact c-tree Plus engine, coupled with its flexible API, has made it a popular choice for embedded developers. 15 FairCom releases c-treesql Server and new edition of c-tree Plus incorporating an array of interface technology and advanced features including data filters; partitioned files; enhanced server cache subsystems; more Columbia, MO June 12, 2003 FairCom Corporation announced the release of the new c-treesql Server for Windows, a high performance database server incorporating a robust SQL engine built on the proven core of the c-tree Server. This new technology includes embedded SQL and interactive SQL utilities as well as JDBC and ODBC drivers. In conjunction with this release, FairCom released a new edition of their popular c-tree Plus embedded database development system with new VCL and CLX components for developers working in Borland environments and new C and C++ interfaces simplifying the development and management of databases. Francesco Cortinovis, Manager of FairCom Europe, notes, Many of our developer-partners expressed a need for a SQL solution that complements the power of c-tree. FairCom s c-treesql Server is unique in that it allows both relational modeled database support as well as c-tree's ISAM access simultaneously within the same application. As an example, Cortinovis notes, a developer can use ISAM access to get data into an application quickly, and then use SQL queries (including embedded SQL and interactive SQL for end-users) to manage that data. Randal Hoff, FairCom s Director of Business Development, explains, This new technology gives a terrific venue to Windows developers who can now utilize the embedded SQL or ODBC interfaces and move to FairCom s powerful, proven server technology, without re-architecting their application. Additionally ISQL, the new interactive query utility allows a developer to easily prototype and test SQL statements. Early customers using the c-treesql Server have reported outstanding performance with the new technology. "We reviewed every database option available on the market today. Only FairCom could meet the real-time and throughput requirements we had to deliver the TeaLeaf Web application management solution," notes Tim Knudsen, Director of Product Management for TeaLeaf Corporation. Tealeaf s IntegriTea is a Web application management system that tracks individual users sessions in real-time, using the c-treesql Server. c-tree Plus includes c-treevcl/clx, new VCL and CLX data access components to give developers working in Borland environments easy access to c-tree Plus. Additional interfaces in this release include new C and C++ database interfaces, termed c-treedb, which significantly reduce development overhead for developers working in C and C++ environments. This release of c-tree Plus includes a number of additional features to strengthen and extend the commercial developer s power. The c-tree Server now offers partitioned files, which appear logically to be one file, but are actually a set of files whose contents are partitioned by the value of a partition key. This permits the data with a defined range of values to be rapidly purged or archived instead of doing this for individual records. A redesigned server cache subsystem includes a new index mechanism that allows the server administrator to set the cache sizes as high as reasonably possible. It includes options for priming the cache with a file and keeping specified files in the cache. New data filter options reduce access time when working with data subsets, allowing specific criteria to temporarily restrict access to those filtered records. In a client/server environment, filters may substantially reduce network traffic since only records satisfying the filter conditions are returned. c-tree Plus V7.12 is priced at $895 and includes development servers for the c-treesql Server and standard c-tree Server. Development editions of the JDBC, ODBC and native Seagate Crystal Report Drivers are also included. Production editions of the c-treesql All Rights Reserved 15

16 Server and c-tree Server are licensed based on the platform and number of connections per installed executable. c-treesql Servers for Windows start at $790 for 8 connections, single or dual CPUs. FairCom offers quantity discounts and flexible business models. FairCom created Access Manager for Digital Research in 1979 and released its first true application development tool, the original c-tree file handler, that same year. Today c-tree Plus is running in over 100 CPU/OS environments in more than 100 countries worldwide. 17 FairCom releases Beta version of a dbexpress Driver for the c-treesql database Server San Jose, CA November 1, 2003 FairCom Corporation announced the availability of a Beta release of a dbexpress driver, c-treedbx, for the c-treesql Server. dbexpress is a cross-platform, database-independent and extensible interface from Borland that provides a set of methods for dynamic SQL processing. As a simple drop-in component, the new driver makes FairCom s technology more accessible to developers working in Borland environments. FairCom s c-treedbx is a lightweight database driver that provides fast access to FairCom s SQL database server, the c-treesql Server. This driver adapts the server-specific calls of the c-treesql Server to a set of uniform dbexpress interface methods. Ricardo Machado, lead developer on the c-treedbx project, notes, FairCom has a long history of support for Borland developers. This new driver will be integral to FairCom s ongoing support of Borland technologies because dbexpress serves as the next generation data-access method for Kylix, Delphi and C++Builder. FairCom also offers c-treevcl/clx, VCL and CLX data access components that give Borland developers easy access to c-tree Plus, which is FairCom s flagship product with over twenty years of commercial deployment worldwide. The components of this Beta release of FairCom s c-treedbx driver are available for download from FairCom s Web site. FairCom created Access Manager for Digital Research in 1979 and released its first true application development tool, the original c-tree file handler, that same year. 18 FairCom Corporation announces new release of c-tree Plus and c-tree Servers Performance enhancements, monitoring tools,.net assembly, SQL support for additional platforms top list of new enhancements Columbia, MO November 15, 2004 FairCom Corporation, a leading provider of high performance database technology, announced the availability of new releases of their proven database development toolkit, the c-tree Plus SDK, in conjunction with new releases of their high performance database servers, the c-tree Server and c-treesql Server. This new technology offers developers enhanced performance, new server monitoring tools, a.net assembly, and SQL support for additional platforms. Performance enhancements are a major highlight of FairCom s version 8 releases. FairCom engineers spent considerable time profiling and tuning the c-tree Servers, particularly in the area of transaction processing. Using real-world performance tests, FairCom applied significant enhancements which benefit transaction and SQL query throughput and overall server scalability. In one test, improvements of almost 400% were shown between the new and previous releases of the server. New tools have also been added to help monitor server operations. A wealth of performance-oriented statistics can be captured at specified intervals or on demand with the server's new Performance Snapshot. Notes Craig Bailey, a Senior FairCom engineer, With this performance monitoring utility, developers can gain valuable insights to assist in tuning the c-tree Server for their specific application. It can further assist with problem identification and resolution after deployment. FairCom also introduced support for the Microsoft.NET Framework in the form of a new.net assembly for c-tree Plus. This gives application developers working in a.net environment a simple interface into the proven core of c-tree Plus. It integrates with VB,.NET, C#, J#, and other.net languages. With this new release, FairCom s c-treesql Server now supports a number of additional operating systems including Linux, Mac OS X, Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX in addition to the support for Windows introduced in the last release.
